Question Anyone know how to pin stripe a wheel best?

I think i want to put either a blue or red pinstripe on my steel wheels to break up the black a bit i was thinking maybe on the flat inner wall where the hubcaps attach using just some vinyl pin stripe i could pick up at like pep boys. I'm staying steel wheels because it just looks right to me now.

red paint and a thin / tiny modeling brush. jack the car up on each corner and hold the brush steady on the lip of the wheel then have a friend slowly turn the wheel in one direction. usually works very well.

I was thinking the same as Ryan. Pinstriping tape usually doesn't take the tight curve of the wheel very well. And with the painted stripe, you don't have to worry about peeling tape.

Make sure you use acrylic enamel, not lacquer enamel. The lacquer won't be flexible enough to expand and contract with the wheel temp. Use a pinstriping brush and you may have to add approx. 20% reducer to the paint for better flow, also depends on what temp and humidity you will be painting in. I am in the process of doing mine right now. Also make sure you clean and de-grease thoroughly where you are putting the stripe and allow curing time.

Especially if you wax or use any kind of protectant on your rims. You want to make sure everything is cleaned off the surface. You can re-apply wax after the pinstripes have hardened.

Well I really wanted to have the pin stripes painted on my Monte's wheels. The autobody shop that did my painted the stripes on my hood said the vinyl stripes on the wheels would be just fine. So when they clear coated my black powder coated OEM wheels I had them apply the vinyl Red pin stripes. They have been on for 5 years now and are still holding up very well. I try to never directly power wash them, but other than that they still look good to me. I use clear coat safe wheel cleaner and such and really there are no problems. I was always leary at first when I washed them, but after 5 years I don't worry so much about them any more.

ryan's plan sounds like a good idea but i would rig something up to hold the brush so it stays steady.
