Default anyone have good things to say about the '95 firebird?

ok so ive been thinking about selling my car so i can buy a 95 firebird. its just the base hatchback, 3.4 5 speed. if i can sell my car for the 2300 im asking ill have 1200 dollars to spend on the bird, and my sisters husband has an ls1 out of a totaled 99 z28 he needs to sell. hes said he will sell it to me for 700 dollars(6 speed trans and the wiring harness too). would this be an ok swap into the bird? or should i just put the money into rebuilding the 3.4 and modding it?

(yes i know i should post something in an f-body forum or a firbird/camaro forum but i trust my friends more on the mcf)

DO IT!

You will need to swap the radiator, computer, kmember, and a few other various parts though for the swap. The 3.4 is kinda weak. (no offense to 3.4s on the forum lol)

My last car before the Monte was a '95 Firebird 3.4 with a 5 speed. It was a great ride, looked good and was reliable. Most fun feature was t-tops. Most un-fun feature was getting in and out of it.

It had a thing for making me drive crazy, throw it into curves and it stuck to the road and all that rear wheel drive action comes to life. Very fun to drive.

V6 to V8 Motor swap? In the peoples republic of California its more trouble than it's worth so I say buy a V8 car if you want one.

Favorite forum was firebirdnation.com.

i was going to say it would be a good candidate for a ls swap and 700 for motor/trans/harnes is a steal!

Personally, I'd rather try and get a 96+ obd2/3800 car just for the better engine aftermarket in case you don't end up doing the LS swap. Either way, I'd buy that LS1 and trans regardless- you could easily make a good chunk of money on reselling both if they're in good shape. Definitely wouldn't put the money into modding the 3.4 either way- you're always going to be light years behind the LS1.

I just picked up a project car '01 V6 auto camaro w/ about 100k on it- and I absolutely love the thing. Certainly is fun to drive, even with the auto.

My opinion is don't get it. That Firebird has two major flaws:

1) 3.4L OHV V6. At 160hp, it's a dog and will be spanked hard by just about everything. Your Monte would spank it without a problem.

2) 1995 is OBD-1.5. Any kind of engine swap will be more difficult due to the fact that you will have to swap the wiring as well.

Like Bumpin said, if you want an F-body, make sure it at LEAST has a 3800 in it and is a 1996 or newer.

Yea my 96 handled great. If you do look around look for the y87 package. It came with dual exhaust, the z28 gearing and steering ratio, and a limited slip diff

My 2 95s were both lt1 v8's and they were fun. I would not buy any 3.4l fbody and would be hard pressed to buy a 3.8, since I feel it just needs a v8. That being said it could be a fun swap for the ls1. I have no idea what is involved. As an fyi bought my 98 LS1 with a rod knock for 2300.00. If you did that and swapped the good motor in for 700 you would be much happier in my opinion.

While it's true that the LQ1 has almost no aftermarket, the 3.4L V6 in the Camaro's aren't much better either. About the best thing to do would be an engine swap.

I'm not sure where you live in AL, but here are a couple of examples that aren't too badly priced:

99 Camaro

97 Chevy Camaro

1999 chevy camaro
