Default Animas Canyon and river from the Durango to Silverton Train (before)

The News said that someone who is light in the loafers caused the disaster to the Animas River.
Not to sure what happened but now the river runs Moose Kack brownish Gold for over 100 miles they say.
Anyway this is such a beautiful area this year just before Mothers Day we took the train from Durango, Co. to Silverton, Co.
I thought I would share some of the Photo's I took during the Train ride.
Hope you like them. I will be adding more shortly stay tuned. The view is from the Train on some of the shots you can see the Engine in the front on the curve. ( we passed a Jerk Water Towns on the way)

Jerk Water Towns anyone know what the means??

Right back in the old west the trains would stop along the river and bucket water to the train, they made what was called a Jerk Line and filled buckets and passed them along the line to the engine. Once a water tower was built they no longer did that from the river. But they still had to fill the tower some how.

More photo's of the Train Trip. I would suggest that when you can you take your Monte Carlo and enjoy some vacation time and see some of the National Parks in the USA.
This was a fun trip and normally I wouldn't post them but due to the disaster that has happened I was thinking that a few people would maybe like to see what it was like prior to the mess up.

We've been up there a couple of times when I was younger. I saw some blurbs about the spill, but didn't realize that it was that river.

Thanks for sharing - When I read the news about the Animas river I knew where it was - not because I'd ever been there, but because of the song by CW McCall.

The real places in a bunch of his songs are places I want to see someday. Like the Silverton, Black Bear Road and downtown Pagosa Springs..

Cool

Didn't realize C W McCall had written a song about that, I only remember the Convoy song he did.
However once you get to Silverton it isn't much to see. I think the ride up was 4 hours or so and we stayed about 2 hours and came back took from about 8:30AM boarding to a 5:30 PM return full day but the scenery was the most beautiful in the country. It is just unfortunate that it had to be scared some by this. Silverton in the photo.

It worked out just great, I was home for a bit, my Daughter lives in Colorado Springs and my Grandson had an event the week before Mothers day, and then my Granddaughter had a dance recital on Mothers day weekend so we took that time in between to see some stuff. I even got a photo on the 4 Corners site down there and I also bought a Genuine Indian made Arrow, I can't shoot it on any of my Bows but it looks cool on the wall.
