It is a buyer's market right now. I should know since I recently purchased my first home. The median selling price of other houses in the neighborhood is ~$200k, and I picked it up for ... roughly a quarter of that.

These "deals" are not because of the recession, though. They're because of one major cause for the recession we're in - the housing bubble popped and as a result the financial sector fell apart. People realized they bought homes for way more than they were worth and with rising interests rates (combined with possibly cut hours and/or a lay off) can no longer afford them.

It happened to my neighbor next-door to where I'm currently renting. He bought that house about 4 months before my landlord bought this one, and paid $340k. He began defaulting on his mortgage payments and tried putting it on the market for an asking price of $400k. Yeah, right! That thing is only worth maybe $260k tops right now. He should have bit the bullet and accepted a loss. Instead, he waited ... and waited. Too late. The bank took over a couple weeks ago. Hopefully I won't be here to see the crap hit the fan. As soon as I'm done fixing up my house and making it livable, I'm moving outta here and into there.

Who knows. Maybe in a future I'll look into buying a FL vacation home.

oh and this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=keQaz5iYeV4

I was just out filling my tires on the beater, it feels about 16 as the weather channel says. I miss the days of driving the monte in the summer with the moon roof and windows down in the country, listening to "Pride and Joy". I also miss buffing, waxing and the whole detailing process. lol I detailed the thing more than I drove it lol. 3 more months...RRR!

Just how many Bel Aires' can we CRAM into U-Haul anyway ?

Sorry. No Convertibles.
I've had chances to buy one over the years but never took the opportunity.
In 1983 at the Classic Chevy convention in Shaumburg, IL a guy was selling a beautiful turquoise/white '57 Convertible for $12,000 - negotiable. The buddy I rode with talked me out of buying the car. Cause I was seriously planning on returning home in a '57 Convertible.
Hind sight being 20/20 and all I wished now I'd have listened to myself instead of my friend.

Once I had a chance on buying a running '57 Nomad and a '57 Convertible that needed work for $1800. Not $18,000, but $1800.00. I didn't have $180 let alone the $1800 for them.
