36 Years And Counting
Today is the 36th anniversary my 210 4-door Sedan and I have been together.
In 1975 I spied her setting at a gas sation my parents used on a regular basis. It had been moved there after the original owner has a stroke and eventually passed away. The station's owners were considering keeping the car as storage payment. When I showed up with one of the original keys to the car, one of the onwers told me to get the car off his lot. Guess he wasn't happy. Someone did decide to steal the car's battery and one of the horns while it sat on this lot.
When I finally found the owner's daughter thanks to a friend of my mom's I ws working a summer job at a motorcycle shop. My parents were on vacation at the time. $20 held the car while I collected the remaining $80 to buy the car. Which my parents loaned me.
It only took a couple tries to get her running after her 5 month slumber. She has been a very car for me over the years. As a not too bright teenager I drove her daily for a couple years racking up the miles. One january no one's car was starting after a very cold night. My 4-door fired right up and even gave a neighbor a ride to work where he reimbursed me $20 for a ride across town. A couple dollars gas at the most.
I'll celebrate the anniversary occassion by starting her for a few minutes today.

Happy Anniversary to the pair of you! Hope she's not jealous of all the other '57's acquired over the years. Non-car people just do not understand what an anniversary between an owner and a car mean to us. Maybe you should give her a healthy run around the block while you are at it!

Owning your own fleet has it's draw backs. Like the space to park them all. The corner my first car slumbered in for over 10 years is now where the 4-door is setting. I stuck her there knowing she would come out again summer, 2012. I've been driving her every other year for some years now. That way the miles stay down. (I put 40 miles on her last summer)
My 4-door has been a great car. There were times she got me home when I didn't think I'd make it there.
I was smart enough to get her off Ohio roads before any salt damage took place.
Since I never "Officially" re-paid my parents the $80 they loaned me, my mother claims the car is her's. I did try to re-pay them in 1975 with my last paycheck (younger guys. I made $102.00 for a 40 hr/week) but my dad wouldn't take the money.

I think that's called "just incase money". Just incase they ever need money, they can come see you and "their" car.
