Default 20th Annual 'Ride to Work Day'

Today is national 'Ride to Work Day', an annual event to promote two-wheeled transportation - bicycles, scooters, motorcycles. The basic idea is to increase public and government awareness of the benefits of riding. It's estimated that 3 times as many people will ride today compared to a normal day. See Ride To Work | Ride To Work "http://www.ridetowork.org" for more info.

So please be especially watchful for two-wheelers on the road today. And everyday for that matter.

Thanks for the heads up. I see people pull in front of motorcycles all the time.

A lot of the people I work with ride their bike to work. A few take a motorcycle too.

Thanks for the reminder Dave!

In the parking garage where I work there are always a bunch of bikes, all beautiful.

Something I always wanted, but the g/f and family are against it

Understandable. Even though I've commuted on two wheels for 20+ years and taken all the safety courses and always ride with safety gear (even in AL heat), I realize it will always be inherently more dangerous than driving a car. No steel cage around you in case something goes wrong. And harder to see - or maybe just easier to miss - since most people aren't really looking for them.

Riding daily is a calculated risk. I ride with the idea that I'm invisible - therefore I stay out of everyone's way, always assuming they can't see me. Close calls, usually with some idiot who's in a hurry and/or talking on a phone, are more frequent than I care to admit. Kinda scary out there some days. But I love riding. Not ready to give it up out of fear.

I respect that you take all of the necessary precautions, I far too often see people on crotch rockets flying in and out of traffic, and being an idiot. Also in PA having a helmet on is personal preference, so often times I see them in jeans and a t-shirt with no helmet going 100+, I couldn't imagine if anything happened...

I know I would be safe on 2 wheels, but I have to respect my family's concerns. I'll just have to have toy cars instead lol
