I just realized that I never really made a post on here about my big build of the year. Finally got around to building my 2012 Camaro the way that I've been wanting it built.
Earlier in the year, I dropped it off at a speed shop to have a custom cam, DOD delete, supporting modifications, long-tubes, and 3200 stall converter installed. On the dyno my L99 had 2 crank bearings seize and it grenaded the whole project.
Blown block.
The carnage destroying all of my new parts
How she sat for a couple of months.
Instead of rebuilding the L99, I decided to go ahead and pick up a brand new crate LS3 for the car. So when that crate engine delivered, we added a cam and everything to this one! Now she's all back together and put down 460whp.
Added a new splitter and ZL1 side skirts, and this is how she currently sits.
Wow, thats awful luck. Any idea what happened to it?
No real clue, thinking my L99 just had some underlying issues that I didn't know about. When we took the engine down to the block, there was some machining on it that was not stock. Speed shop thinks at some point the lifters went bad on the stock engine and they were replaced and might have helped create a weak spot.

Stock heads, would have loved to get a set of ported heads, but really blew past my budget after I had to go to engine #2. It's a custom grind cam: 232/240 .615/.615 113 +3
Recommended to replace the springs at 20k miles, I'll see where my budget is at that time (since it might take me a good 3-4 years to hit that mileage) and maybe I'll do the heads then.

Ah, thats frustrating!

Not bad for the peace of mind of a nice fresh 0 mile engine. Some of the JY engines (especially 6.0s and 6.2s) are really getting up there in price and you've got no clue what its history was.

Nice! The cam options are one of the nicest things about LS engines. Even better when you can pick and chose specs like that to dial it in to exactly what you want.

Yeah didn't want to gamble. Plan on keeping this car for a very long time, so it's nice to start with a 0 mile engine.
This was definitely not a fun situation. I think the original engine blew up a week before going to Carlisle. But it is certainly great that it is back on the road and should be smooth sailing. Smiles for miles lol.

Yep, the Friday right before father's day I got the call that it was blown up.

Congrats tho, looks like a ton of fun!
EDIT: Aside from the little mishap.
Definitely! It's an absolute blast to drive now. Still learning the intricacies and getting used to having a higher stall.

That is a sweet ride man... Love the lip kit. Definitely sucks that the engine bombed on the dyno, but I suppose it was better to happen there as opposed to while driving it.
