2011 Official Monte Carlo car calendar!
#222
I belong to another car club. we have for the last 3 yrs. Put together a club calender. With pictures of our members cars. Never -ever ask G.M. For anything. We had our calenders made in a month. Not trying to rattle any cages. But can you explain to me why G.M. is involed ? Seriously I don't know. Maybe theirs more then myself that don't understand why we just couldn't do it on our own??? Just asking Thanks Rick

Then maybe THEY should have been the ones who approved the photos to be accepted in the vote in the first place AHEAD of time, wouldn't that have made more sense?

Hey everyone,
Here's my attempt to answer everyone's questions.
Rick 2006SS- GM is involved only because they HAVE to be. We found out that it is illegal to sell these MEMBER CREATED calendars for profit without being licensed. Does it sound crazy that I need their permission, even though these are YOUR cars?? Yes it does. We actually fought not getting licensed (because it's far from free) and even paid a law firm way too much money that specializes in intellectual property to confirm if this was true, and sure enough they confirmed. GM has sent many cease and desist letters to printers (like cafepress and zazzle) to pull items like these off their site. We literally had no other choice, if we wanted to do this business but not get shut down.
Enzo- We definitely think it's cool to have GM endorse this calendar (hopefully everyone does too), but I personally would rather have not spent the money to get licensed, if I didn't have to. It was really expensive.
Popcorn king- Give me that cracker box!
Budsjlm- This is a member created calendar. One of the perks of being licensed is that we actually have access to all their archives of images, but we didn't want to go that route. We wanted these calendars to be made of real enthusiast rides, not stock images.
Montelicious- That would have, but GM only requests to see the final images. So we let the contests end, and sent down the winners.
Dustybird- Agreed, I blame myself. I probably spoke to soon, I just wanted to keep everyone in the loop.
Montelicious- Everyone is safe. I sent 2 PM's to the people who had feedback. And again, even those two may be fine, but I wanted to give them a heads up.
PHEW, that was a lot. Hopefully that clears things up. Sorry everyone, I think I spoke too soon. I'm not going to let GM remove anyone's pictures unless they tell me we 100% have to. I was under the impression, that as long as the photos weren't inappropriate, we were good to go. But I requested call back today from them to discuss, so I will keep everyone posted. Thanks for being patient!
