2¢ Worth PT 2 (I have pics)
ORIGINAL: rj
So far no price. (they said to me several times "What will you give for it?")
So far no price. (they said to me several times "What will you give for it?")
All they want to do is laugh at you, when you make your first offer.
I had a couple salesmen say that to me when I was looking around at different Monte's before I bought mine. I answered them, with "Depends what your asking". They still wouldn't give me a price. They responded with "Well, what do you think it's worth?"
I told them I wasn't there to play games and left.
Anyway, I like the body kit on that car. Looks nice without being rice.
I've seen a 2000 grandam with those rims, and they look okay because it's a smaller car. But they look a little small on that Monte. I'd definitely change the rims if you buy it.
If you haven't done it already, get a CarFax on it. Find out if there's anything else they may be forgetting to tell you.
On the plus side, it looks like the previous owner installedthe leather seats. Probably from a 2005 to 2007 model, seeing as it has the side impact airbags in the seats. Can't imagine they work in that 2001, but the leather seats are a definite plus.
Being it's a 7 year old car, it's not going to be perfect. But if it's solid mechanically, and structurally, the little stuff like the cracked body kit and such can be taken care of when time/money allow.
Looks like a nice car you could have fun with.
Good luck!
From what I could find out the '01 SSs did get side impact air bags if ordered with them.
Well, we made an offer on the car. And they laughed at us. Why you ask? We offered $4,000. They want $11,500 for the car.

There is no evidence the car even got one oil change under warranty. And there's 40,000 miles on it since the last time the dealer touched it. Would you buy a car with 85,780 miles on it and no evidence it even got one oil change? Sure it probably did, but "Probably" is a big word here.
The sales guy said the least would take would be $8500. Or at least I believe that's what he told us? If not we both misunderstood him.
So we got up and left the dealership.
On the way home we talked about the car and the most we would give for it. The bank said they would go $8500 on the car but we didn't tell the sales guy that.
I sent him an email a few minutes ago and offeredthe difference between thir bottom price and our offer or $6250. We'll see if they bite on it or not? If not then oh well. There's other Montes out there for sale.
PS. Between us, I'm tempted to keep the car and drive it myself.

it is a nice car, but it def. has been in an accident, so 6250 sounds like a fair offer...with that body kit on it it looks pretty nice...
my cars got a clean carfax, 2 years newer, and the equivalent miles.... i payed $9500 for it.
don't give ground... look it up on kbb or nada and see what it's worth in the condition it's in... show it to the dealership. if they don't take it, jsut say "well it's not mean't to be" and give up on it.. find another one.
private sellers are the way to go... i got mine from a private seller. cna still remember his name... great guy... took great care of the car, service records all the way up to the point where I bought it. The car is DEFINITLY NOT worth $11,500

RJ, you should have pulled a "my dad" on them.
We walked into a dealer together one day while they were looking at Suburbans several years ago. My dad asked the price, they went back and came back with a price like $4k more than we knew it was worth, my dad looked the dealer manager right in the eye and said "O I'm sorry, I thought you were trying to sell it." and we walked out with me trying not to laugh.
I think some delaers don't post the price becasue they like to look at you when you come in and see what they think you wuold give for it. They must have thought we were idiots or something

Sales guy responded to my email. $8500 is their bottom offer.
Guess it's not ment to be.
The dealer I got my '06 LTZ at has an '05 LS with 40,some miles on it for the same price they want for this '01. ($11,500)
Why would we give that much for an '01 when I can have a car 4 years newer and less miles?
Wonder if the other dealer would take $8500 for the '05 LS?
I mean that would be a good deal on the '05 as long as it was taken care of.
I think I'll send this sales guy a message back telling him about the '05 LS at my local Chevy dealer.

That car isn't even worth $6250 IMO....ESPECIALLY IF it has had A-pillar damage.....I'm glad you aren't buying it...I bet they are hiding something.....That car is especially NOT worth $11,500!!!! RIP OFF!!!!
