While truck lovers are typically known for craving power, speed is also a factor that many drivers don’t like to give up at strength’s expense. Over the years, engineering teams from the world’s best automakers have mainly focused on bigger engines, larger tires, and producing more torque and horsepower, rather than increasing the overall top speed of the planet’s pickups. But that’s not to say that there haven’t been some incredibly speedy trucks over the years.
Descended from the muscle and sports car communities, a small but lively group of truck enthusiasts have continued to egg on manufacturers in the race to build faster trucks. There have been a few examples of success over the years, but they have been few and far between. Here, we’re going to take a look at some of the fastest pickups that have ever been produced.

This list showcases the fastest trucks that automakers have developed so far. There are exceptions, as the list is limited to production models. That means that models like the Hennessey SRT-10 Ram Venom 650R and the Chevrolet S-10 Xtreme Force are no-shows, as well as a slew of other modified pickups. Without further ado, here are the world’s 10 fastest pickup trucks, ranked according to their acceleration time from 0-60 miles per hour.

10. Chevrolet Silverado 454 SS

To kick things off, a model from the early 1990s is still hanging on as one of the world’s fastest pickups. The Chevrolet Silverado 454 SS is a rarity these days, but when it hit the scene decades ago it changed a lot of people’s’ minds about what trucks were capable of. Performance data is limited, but it appears that the 454 SS could make the sprint from 0-60 miles per hour in 7.1 seconds, propelled by a powerful 255 horses and 405 pound-feet of torque.

9. F-150 SVT Raptor

Warp ahead to present day, when Ford’s aptly named Raptor F-150 variant is currently carving up roads — and countrysides — all across the nation. The F-150 SVT Raptor is bred to take on off-road environments, but that doesn’t mean it can’t scream down the streets. Testing puts the Raptor’s 0-60 time between 6.5 and 7.1 seconds. This F-150 iteration comes stocked with a 6.2-liter V8 engine, making up to 411 horsepower and 434 pound-feet of torque. It also tops out at an estimated 150 miles per hour.

8. Chevrolet Silverado SS

Chevrolet took some serious inspiration from Nascar when it put together the SS in the mid-2000s, which became the spiritual successor to the 454 SS from the previous decade. The SS could blast through a quarter-mile in 14.8 seconds, and along the way hit 60 miles per hour in 6.3 seconds. The SS used a powerful motor that generated 345 horsepower and 380 pound-feet of torque. Fairly strong, but not strong enough to outlast many of its competitors in terms of speed.

7. Toyota Tacoma X-Runner

Toyota’s immensely popular Tacoma has a variety of trim levels and variants, but the X-Runner is the quickest. The downside is that it is slated to end its production run this year, so it’s about to become a very hot commodity. But how fast is it? Estimates peg the X-Runner’s 0-60 time at six seconds flat, as the standard model can get the job done in a second or so slower than that. It got the job done with the strength of 236 horses generated from a 4.0-liter V6 engine.

6. Ford F-150 Tremor

Another sporty take on the F-150, the Tremor variant is even quicker than the Raptor and is the second-fastest Ford pickup to ever hit the streets. The Tremor could spring from rest to 60 miles per hour in 5.8 seconds, all behind the strength of the 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 motor under the hood. It’s a pretty powerful little truck, as well, making up to 365 horsepower and 420 pound-feet of torque. The Tremor is available in both four-wheel and two-wheel drive, with the four-wheel version being slightly quicker. Many would be surprised to find the Tremor is quicker than the Raptor, but indeed it is, mostly because it weighs roughly 1,000 pounds less.

5. Ram R/T

We’ve all heard of the Charger and Challenger R/T models, but don’t forget about the Ram R/T. Chrysler put the same sporty engineering prowess into this Ram variant as it did with its muscle cars, and the results are a truck that has a considerable amount of jump. The R/T can run from a standstill to 60 in 5.7 seconds, all thanks to a 5.7-liter V8 engine. There are a few engine choices available, but the V8 produced the most power at 390 horsepower and 407 pound-feet of torque.

4. F-150 SVT Lightning

Here’s a familiar name with a new face: the F-150 SVT Lightning. The Lightning could race from 0 to 60 in just 5.2 seconds on its way to an overall top speed of 147 miles per hour. Ten years ago, that was enough to earn it the title of the world’s fastest production truck, but it has since been displaced. It’s hard to argue with Ford for naming this F-150 “Lightning” — after all, it could scream past all other trucks in a flash during its heyday. Not only was it fast, but its edgy aesthetics were also something to behold.

3. GMC Syclone

The GMC Syclone has become somewhat of a legend. On one hand, it appears to be a small commuter pickup truck, with very little to offer in terms of performance. On the other, it was an absolute monster on the track, even keeping pace with Ferrari and Lamborghini models in its prime. Even Jeremy Clarkson from Top Gear was thoroughly impressed with the Syclone when he took it for a spin way back in 1991. The Syclone’s 0-60 time is pegged somewhere between 4.6 and 5.3 seconds, a speed that has yet to be matched by any other trucks even resembling the Syclone to this day.

2. Ram SRT10

Long called the world’s fastest production pickup since it hit the streets in 2006, the Ram SRT10 is truly a sight to behold. The mad scientists over at SRT’s laboratories actually outfitted this pickup with the engine from a Viper: a 500-horsepower V10 that could also make up to 525 pound-feet of torque. This was Dodge’s answer to the Ford Lightning, and the company replied in the loudest way possible. The SRT10 could jump from 0-60 in 4.9 seconds, a time that has stood the test of time until very recently.

1. Toyota Tundra TRD Supercharged

There is a bit of controversy surrounding the world’s fastest pickup. The Toyota Tundra TRD Supercharger was reported to have an insane 0-60 time of 4.4 seconds by Motor Trend, but many others have called that into question. Since no one has actually been able to refute it, the time stands, and this Tundra variant gets to assume the throne as the world’s fastest. To put things in perspective, this is a full-size pickup truck that is able to keep pace with many of the world’s supercars from Ferrari, Aston Martin, etc. It gets there behind a goosed-up 5.7-liter V8 engine making 504 horsepower and 550 pound-feet of torque. Simply astounding
