Keane I think you are right. It is an old folks thing. I had a cabriolet top on a 92 Mercury Sable that I had. I loved the look. It is a fairly expensive option. The top is not vinyl though. Usually they have a canvas top over a fiberglass cap that is glued to the roof. I like it on Lincoln Towncars and Cadillac Sedan DeVilles.

Actually, I think that one looks better then others I've seen. The half cap maybe looks better? Or maybe cause its almost the same color? I'm not saying I like it but it doesn't really look that out of place either. I must be getting old...

This is a throw back to the second, third, and fourth gen Montes. To me it didn't look good on a fourth gen SS but I like it on all the rest. I like it on this Monte too. I'm an older guy and grew up with this style.

I'm guessing "no mods" meant any mods done by himself.
I've seen these tops on almost every kind of car at one time or another and they're definitely not factory these days.
