~> Never a Monte Carlo by GM ?

My Monte I got out of luck and being in the right place at the right time. I like the two door 80's Cutlass Supreme, Buick Regal, and Grand Prix as well as I like my Monte so any one of them. I also like the Impala from 1958 thru 1973 and the 66-67 Nova.

I was looking for a car with a more reliable engine. I knew the 3.8 had a reputation of being almost bullit proof. And I was looking for a more reliable car than the money pit 99 Grand Am GT I had. But it also had to be fun to drive. I probably would've gotten a Grand Prix GTX.

Requirements/needs
-US make. Bucking the trends out here on the left coast.
-Large & safe. Drove 900 miles a week on SF Bay freeways. I pick nimble large instead of mass large. After 2 SUVs I was ready to be comfortable.
-MPGs over 25. After 2 SUVs I . . . . .
-Ego was way down on the list. If I was down to 2 choices of equal value I'd pick something with a history. Favorable history (no Azteks, no matter how cheap)
T-Bird comes to mind
no, no I mean
First choice was an Impala or Bonneville. But 4 door cars were not high on the list.

I probably would have either stuck with my 03 grand am GT (ik taz had horrible luck with his but i never had a single problem in 25k, good luck i guess lol) anyway or my 86 Iroc if not those I'd probably have a G5 or G6. I honestly hated Grand Prixs because they were so common around here, so I probably never would have gotten one but after owning one I do love them.

By 2003, they had already addressed the LIM issue. Didn't get rid of the problem completely, but wasn't as big an issue. At the time, the Grand Am forums were loaded with 1999 and 2000 model GA's that had LIM problems. Among many other common issues. I had to replace the resistor for the heater fan control 3 or 4 times.
But enough of my thread hijacking.

I almost didn't buy the Monte. I was leaving the car lot after looking at an older Camaro and was telling the wife since the Camaro didn't pan out (need too much work) I was going to try and find a stock '66 Nova SS and do a few tweaks to it. There's just something about the style of the '66/'67 Chevy II...but then the Monte caught my eye...
