Mom, you're a wonderful mother,
So gentle, yet so strong.
The many ways you show you care
Always make me feel I belong.
So gentle, yet so strong.
The many ways you show you care
Always make me feel I belong.
You're patient when I'm foolish;
You give guidance when I ask;
It seems you can do most anything;
You're the master of every task.
You give guidance when I ask;
It seems you can do most anything;
You're the master of every task.
You're a dependable source of comfort;
You're my cushion when I fall.
You help in times of trouble;
You support me whenever I call.
You're my cushion when I fall.
You help in times of trouble;
You support me whenever I call.
I love you more than you know;
You have my total respect.
If I had my choice of mothers,
You'd be the one I'd select!
You have my total respect.
If I had my choice of mothers,
You'd be the one I'd select!

Everything Mom
How did you find the energy, Mom
To do all the things you did,
To be teacher, nurse and counselor
To me, when I was a kid.
To do all the things you did,
To be teacher, nurse and counselor
To me, when I was a kid.
How did you do it all, Mom,
Be a chauffeur, cook and friend,
Yet find time to be a playmate,
I just can’t comprehend.
Be a chauffeur, cook and friend,
Yet find time to be a playmate,
I just can’t comprehend.
I see now it was love, Mom
That made you come whenever I'd call,
Your inexhaustible love, Mom
And I thank you for it all.
That made you come whenever I'd call,
Your inexhaustible love, Mom
And I thank you for it all.

A Sonnet for My Incomparable Mother
I often contemplate my childhood, Mom.
I am a mother now, and so I know
Hard work is mixed together with the fun;
You learned that when you raised me long ago.
I am a mother now, and so I know
Hard work is mixed together with the fun;
You learned that when you raised me long ago.
I think of all the things you gave to me:
Sacrifice, devotion, love and tears,
Your heart, your mind, your energy and soul--
All these you spent on me throughout the years.
Sacrifice, devotion, love and tears,
Your heart, your mind, your energy and soul--
All these you spent on me throughout the years.
You loved me with a never-failing love
You gave me strength and sweet security,
And then you did the hardest thing of all:
You let me separate and set me free.
You gave me strength and sweet security,
And then you did the hardest thing of all:
You let me separate and set me free.
Every day, I try my best to be
A mother like the mom you were to me.
A mother like the mom you were to me.

happy mother's day to becky and all the MCF moms and members moms! i hope you all have a great day and are able to enjoy your family's company.
i lost my mom 10 years ago to cancer. it was her 3rd bout with cancer. 1st time she had it on the nerve on the back of her right eye. a couple months of radiation supposedly took care of it and she lost 98% sight in the eye. never slowed her down though. 2nd time was breast cancer (unrelated to the 1st time), and she lost her left breast. she was fitted for a prosthesis, but couldn't really stand wearing and never wore it other than i think to my brother's first wedding. she had been in remission for quite a while and had just been told by the doctors that she could stop taking the medication that they'd said she was going to have to take daily for the rest of her life. about a month after that (june 1st, '99) she had a regularly scheduled visit to her doctor and they found cancer in her liver. they believed part of the tumor from her eye had fallen off during radiation and finally resurfaced there. she was expected to be fine, go through chemo again at the cancer center in bethesda, md a couple weeks later. the doctors were so sure she was going to be fine that they told her and my dad not to cancel their anniversary trip to niagara falls. unfortunately the cancer spread a lot faster than they had anticipated and we lost her on july 18th of 99.
mother's days since then have always been tough for me. i miss her tremendously. i feel that i was able to become a stronger person through her. it always amazed me that she'd rather have walked around bald than bother with a wig. she even got a buzzcut when she first started losing her (very very LONG) hair so she wouldn't have to worry about it getting all over the place. through the entire 10 or so years she dealt with cancer it never ever got her spirit down. she was still the happy, funny, goofy mom she always was. i guess what doesn't kill you really does make you stronger.
sorry to be debbie downer with this post, i don't mean to get anyone sad. i just wanted to tell my mom's story because i don't talk about her. she is my guardian angel now and i think about her every day. happy mother's day mom, i miss you and i love you!!

Jamie, Thanks for sharing with us about your Mom. We ARE a family here, and sharing things like that are very tender and special, and those core members of the MCF really DO appreciate these personal stories about our families.
I got to spend some time with my Mom and Dad this weekend. Mom is 90, and has Alzheimers setting in. Dad is 92 and in great health! Mom wears him down, tho. My neice and her 2 younguns live with them and KINDA help out, but I didn't see much helping this weekend. It was GREAT to see Mom, cuz about a month ago, she appeared to have several small strokes, and I spent the night in intensive care with her. It seems that she was having seizures, and the new med she is taking seems to help.
Here's a couple of pics I'm going to share. This is my Mom, Nellie, at 90. I took this today:
Here is Dad, Dale, at 92. My neice took this a couple of days ago. This is his WWII Army Air Corp uniform:

wayne, thank you for sharing too! and i appreciate your kind words. i really learned a lot from my mom during our short time together. even though i was only 18 when she passed, i think it put my life in perspective and made me grow up a lot. i find myself still doing a lot of things that i know she would have been proud of (like my car!! she would have loved it!!).
your mom looks like a million bucks for 90!! bless her little heart. it's nice that you got to spend some quality time with them. take care.
