2010 SLP ZL575 Camaro
Dennis Simanaitis, our esteemed Engineering Editor—a man who’s driven more than a few tuner cars in his 30-plus years at Road & Track—could hardly contain himself: “You don’t see many white-haired guys driving new Camaros,” confessed Dennis, “but I sure had a ball driving the SLP. I suspect its intended audience doesn’t realize just how good this car is. Back in the 1960s, muscle cars knocked us out with their straight-line performance, but little else. This thing, the SLP, handles and brakes as well as it accelerates. It’s able to light up its rear tires in 2nd gear with ease.”
The good doctor, as many of you know, is not prone to overstatement; the SLP Camaro really is that good. In fact, SLP has been doing OE level work on Firebirds and Camaros since 1991, back when it had a facility right next to the GM F-body plant in Quebec. Since then, the New Jersey-based company has produced more than 60,000 Camaros and Firebirds.
Enough about the company. The car itself, the ZL575, is one of 250 such examples that SLP is building for the 2010 model year. And leading the charge, both literally and figuratively, is the company’s Roots-type blower (with 4-lobe Eaton TVS internals), which teams with SLP’s own long-tube headers, cold-air intake and stainless-steel “axle-back” exhaust to bump power of the LS3 V-8 to 575 bhp at 6240 rpm. That’s 149 bhp more than the stock SS, and it’s emissions-legal in all 50 states.
Helping put that power down are the stock Pirelli P Zero tires (245s front, 275s rear) on red-striped 20-in. 5-spoke alloy wheels. Slightly firmer springs lower this Camaro by an inch, just enough to create a menacing look without causing the nose to scrape in driveways. What’s more, the ride has been compromised only slightly, and the adjustable 29-mm tubular anti-roll bars (replacing the stock Camaro’s 23-mm bars) do a fantastic job of snubbing any excessive body roll.
With all the added power, the slotted and drilled Brembo brakes are welcome hardware. The fronts are particularly impressive, with 6-piston calipers clamping on 2-piece 15-in. rotors that help haul this Camaro down from triple-digit speeds with little drama and lots of composure, aided by the stock ABS. Of note, when ZL575s are ordered with this upgraded brake package, SLP raises the Camaro’s electronic speed limiter to 190 mph. Yes, 190 mph.
Although our test Camaro was the initial ZL575 pilot car with several thousand hard press miles on its odometer, it felt remarkably tight, and it weaved though our slalom at 69.1 mph, nearly 3 mph faster than a stock SS. And although there was plenty of power to break the rear wheels loose at will, we were amazed at just how well this SLP Camaro hooked up at the track, hitting 60 mph in 4.3 seconds and blasting through the quarter mile in 12.5 sec. at 118.5 mph...that trap speed a clear indicator of the car’s prodigious power. Best of all, overall driveabilty hasn’t been sacrificed one iota; this small-block V-8 idles smoothly with a deep-throated rumble, exhibits great tractability at low rpm and then makes excellent power all the way to redline in each gear.
The visual enhancements to the SLP Camaro are appealingly subtle. We particularly like the RTM hood, with its functional heat extractor and painted rally-style stripes. It has an OE look, as does the enlarged rear spoiler. And Camaro fans of yore will like the blacked-out bar between the ZL575’s taillamps; it recalls early Camaros that had the larger engine option. Similarly tasteful are the interior modifications, the most noticeable being the car’s embroidered headrests and the numbered manufacturing plaque. As stated, only 250 2010 ZL575s will be produced, for $22,995 over the cost of a stock SS, plus options. While that’s steep—especially for a car that retains its stock shock absorbers—this is a fully optioned turn-key Camaro with supercar power and a 3-year/36,000-mile warranty. Better yet: ZL575s are available from Chevrolet dealers who order cars from SLP and then have them drop-shipped to New Jersey to be built. If only all tuner cars had this level of refinement… —Andrew Bornhop

The demise of Pontiac hasn't killed off enthusiasm for the brand, and Lingenfelter Performance Engineering is there for those who remember a better time: when the Pontiac Trans-Am was the car to have — and style meant bell-bottom jeans and oversize lapels.
Owner Ken Lingenfelter says their concept represents "all the styling and muscle from the past combined with the technology and elegance of today."
Like the original, the platform is a Chevrolet Camaro's. It's powered by a 455-cu.-in. aluminum V-8 making 655 bhp and 610 lb.-ft. of twist. (This is probably enough to shred its Nitto tires on a whim.) A Corvette ZR1's LS9 twin-disk clutch and flywheel assembly have been adapted to handle the power, likewise stronger halfshafts. We're curious if the independent suspension can hold up to this kind of abuse.
As for looks, the Lingenfelter T/A certainly isn't short on 1970's muscle car cues. The custom front fascia and body kit are obviously styled after the mid-'70 Trans-Am Firebird's. It's complete with shaker hood scoop, honeycomb wheels, machine turned instrument panel and blue-vinyl woven seats that really bring the '70s back to life. For better or worse, we're not sure; but clearly muscle car enthusiasts (especially those of a certain age) have reason to rejoice.

Its a body kit for the Camaro. Speaking of which, where's the Trans Am body kit? That's the version Camaro I'd want.

2010 Camaro transformed into Pontiac Trans-Am by ACS Creative Services
Featured on homepage.

"There are many behind-the-scenes players in the automotive industry that few on the outside ever hear of, despite their huge contributions. ASC Creative Services is one such company, designing and building some of the most cherished cars on the streets, including all 547 examples of the Buick GNX. Today, however, the company has turned its focus to creating a Pontiac Trans-Am from the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro.

The difference between the two cars has never been huge, historically, but they have always filled slightly different niches, with the Trans-Am typically getting a more aggressive treatment from the factory. ASC's design is no different.

Effected mostly by a body kit and wheels, the transformation to Pontiac Trans-Am includes an all-new Pontiac-style split-window grille, new front, side and rear aero, rear fender vents, trunk-lid spoiler, reworked side mirrors, and a new hood. Huge rear lights sit astride a Pontiac Firebird logo on the back of the car, while a single white stripe runs the length from front to back.

No word on performance mods has been released, so this appears to be a visual modification only.

Unfortunately for Pontiac fans, the Trans Am won't really live on as ASC doesn't have any plans to produce the car in volume - though they will build one out of your supplied 2010 Camaro if you just can't get enough Pontiac in your life.

I like the Callaway simply because of the hood cutout showing the supercharger when the hood is closed...

I saw all of the Trans Am Conversions at the GM Nationals this year and all of them were sweet, but I particularly liked the black one with the red phoenix emblems...looked pretty awesome...
