I love how the guy from Florida is posting about how to drive in the winter.......

We have had some bad conditions on occasion here in North Carolina. PRoblem is, no one here knows how to drive on snow and ice because we don't get experience, yet we're also unfortuante enough to get some of this weather on occasion to make it dangerous. We don't know how to plow roads II've seen snow plows knock snow from one lane to another and then back to where it came from), we don't have the equipment to treat all the roads in a timely manner, and it ultimately leads to the state of NC being shut down about 3 times a season.

we get quite a bit of snow and our fair share of ice and here is a couple of things I would recommend

#1 Rain x the windshield before it gets 2 cold it helps with ice and just being able to see (they use MAG. out here with the rocks and man does that crap make your wind shied a mess )
#2 make sure your windshield washer is all ways full preferable the low temp stuff once again if you cant see You Cant Drive !!
#3 winter windshield wipers so the blade don't freeze up on you . the hole cant see thing again
#4 I all ways have a bottle or 2 of heat for my gas gets the water out so you don't freeze your gas lines
#5 plan your route and tell some one . and try to do it during the day if possible (more people out and less chance of ice)
#6 do a quick walk around you car while it is warming up .Make sure everything works, tires are good and so on .
#7 pack a water proof blanket and food and water for at least a day you never know when you may be in a white out situation or have a break down .

#8 I am up in the mountains quite a bit all winter so I always have at least 60' of tow strap or chain and a 4D mag light ,Axe, fire starter and some old carpet scraps ,road flares, full socket set and extra oil and at least my 45 with me in my truck.(You just never know )

2 very important things most people don't seem to get:
-AWD or even FWD won't prevent you from sliding or spinning out
-Traction control and ABS won't help you either - ABS will actually spin you out if you're not careful.

We can get it pretty bad up here thanks to all the lake effect snow we get - but ODOT does a pretty good job at keeping the freeways cleared...back roads not so much. Although, when you're on the freeway black ice is a problem. I give my self twice as much time to get to work and I don't worry about being late - people understand if you're a bit late to work if it's bad out.
