NEWS
On Saturday (May 5) 2012 at 11:35 p.m. EDT, the moon will officially turn full. And only 25 minutes later the moon will also arrive at perigee, its closest approach to Earth WoW— a distance of 221,802 miles (356,955 kilometers) away.
The effect of this coincidence is a stunning skywatching sight called the "supermoon."
In fact, this month's perigee is the closest of any perigee in 2012 (they vary by about 3 percent, because the moon's orbit is not perfectly circular). The result will be a 16 percent brighter-than-average full moon accompanied by unusually high and low tides this weekend and into the new week.
In contrast, later this year, on Nov. 28, the full moon will closely coincide with apogee, the moon's farthest point from Earth. [Amazing Supermoon Photos from 2011]

Space - can I enter the contest again????? I tried last night but the clouds kept getting in the way. Hopefully tonight the sky will be clear - I found a spot on a hill overlooking the city where I can line up the moon above the Monte.

I am looking 4ward to viewing the Moon 2night...I am planning a work break for everyone in the warehouse from 11:30 PM until Mid-night..., but we are outside a lot when the trucks arrive to unload...
I really love the night skies...Growing up on a boat @ sea most of the time brings back some great memories 4-Sure.
I kept asking my grandfather, "Where does it `End?"
He would answer, wherever you want it to `End...Keep Searching & Look'in

Here's my pix from last night. I'm going to try again tonight; hopefully the sky won't be as hazy. My camera is not the best for night photos (a Kodak Easyshare) but it's still fun to try for good shots.
(Space can you post these in a bigger size? My Photobucket account is being outsourced right now. Thanks!)
