Oil futures surpass $90 a barrel
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20071018/ap_on_bi_ge/oil_prices;_ylt=AruHF...

NEW YORK - Oil prices surpassed $90 a barrel for the first time
Thursday as the falling dollar drew new foreign investors and
speculators to dollar-denominated energy futures.

Light, sweet crude for November delivery hit $90.02 in electronic
trading Thursday evening before returning to around $89.60. Earlier,
prices had risen $2.07 to settle at a record $89.47 on the New York
Mercantile Exchange.

While oil prices have risen sharply in dollar terms in recent days, the
steadily weakening dollar means oil futures are seen as a bargain
overseas. Data released in recent weeks shows speculative buying of oil
futures is on the rise. Buying by foreign investors sends prices up,
which draws more speculators into the market.

"It becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy," said Brad Samples, commodities
analyst at Summit Energy Services Inc. in Louisville, Ky.

Many analysts feel that the underlying fundamentals of supply and demand
do not support oil prices of $90 a barrel. On Wednesday, the Energy
Department reported that oil and gasoline supplies rose more than
expected last week, countering suggestions that supplies are tight.

"Fundamental reasons, we're kind of running out of them," said James
Cordier, president of Liberty Trading Group in Tampa, Fla. "The main
driving factor today is ... the dollar making an all-time low against
the euro," he said.

However, crude supplies at the closely watched Nymex delivery point of
Cushing, Okla., fell last week. And several reports in recent days have
predicted oil supplies will tighten in the fourth quarter.

Thursday was the fifth day in a row crude prices have set new records.
Despite the gains, the price of oil is still below inflation-adjusted
highs hit in early 1980. Depending on the adjustment, a $38 barrel of
oil in 1980 would be worth $96 to $101 or more today.

November gasoline rose 3.85 cents to settle at $2.1851 a gallon, while
Nymex heating oil futures rose 3.04 cents to settle at $2.3493 a gallon.

November natural gas futures fell 8.4 cents to settle at $7.374 per
1,000 cubic feet as investors shrugged off an Energy Department report
that inventories rose by 39 billion cubic feet last week, less than
analysts had expected. Supplies are high by historical standards.

Think the rich care? Think your president cares? What about the people?

Life along these lines have always been this way in the country as well as others. The rich get richer, the poor get poorer.
And the workingclass of the nation carries it's weightwhile the rich get tax breaksyou never even heard of.

Like I've said before. Politicians in this country are so out of touch with the people they represent it's not funny. They have no clue what it's like to live the way you or I live daily.

When they leave office most get a pension that remains in effect until they die and their wives even get one. Who agreed to that one?

welll i've said it once i'll say it again... the rich are paying most of the taxes, about 10% of our population is paying 75% of the taxes.. and you people claim the rich are getting richer. no, thanks to the democrats and their social programs, the truth is the poor get richer and the rich get poorer.

can you imagine what life would be if everybody was taxed evenly, like all of you seem to want?

and another thing... you people keep claiming "Bush only gives tax cuts to the rich."

well if you guys will remember, bush gave tax cuts across the lines. the democrats advertise as "Bush gave tax cuts to the rich"

then it goes to your minds as "bush gave tax cuts ONLY to the rich...."

crazy....

$90 a barrel. Guess this is why they cancelled the street version H1 Hummer. 4 mpg wasn't it?

I filled up last week from half, it cost me $40. But that's with the required premium gas.

I'm still fillin with premium, even though it's only 2.70 for Mid 89 E10and it's now 2.96 for premium. (91 octane, no ethanol)

will probably run E10 every other tank in the winter, as the ethanol does a good job of sucking the tank dry, (of any water that is)

That or I'll fill on like 3/4 premium, and the rest E10 89

Maybe I'm brain-washing myself, but I seriously believe my car has better power, and mileage on Premium. Even with it not being forced induction... Plus it's a bigger engine than many car V6s, and a cooler running fuel means less BTU's of power go out the radiator.

All I can say is, yes fuel costs suck, but it still beats Diesel!

Show me proof. Then I'll believe.

Guy I'm friends with showed me a pamphlet he found in a box he bought at an auction. It was printed in 1919 by an oil company in Cleveland, OH. A barrel of oil in a steel barrel was $.90 then.

If you wanted the oil in a wooden barrel it was $1.05.
