Wow, what a day...
Well, I called him 3 times today, and he finally heard back from the salvage yard. No dice.
According to the website Taz posted on VIN lookup, it looks like this car originally had California Emissions on it, so that may be why he's having so much trouble finding parts for it.
I asked him today for any paperwork he has on the engine, since it was only put in about a month ago, it should still have some warranty from the Salvage yard (he did say they gave him some warranty.) He also said that it is the engine that belongs in it, that it came out of another 2001 Monte Carlo SS, and I found out the K&N filter I had was miss-boxed, so I've got the correct filter for it now, and had the guys over at Advanced Auto put it in for me. Unfortunately, he couldn't lay hands on the paperwork today, he'll have to fax/email it to me.
He also said that if I could find the parts, he'd have his guys do the labor (for free.) This right here may be my compromise, Sparky-88. As long as the parts aren't over $1,000, and he completely covers the labor, I think I can live with that.
So, anyone good at locating parts? If necessary, I could snap some pics of the engine, and I have that exploded diagram I could scan in and post if anyone thinks they could help?
Here's the diagram. The highlighted stuff is what's missing.

These are the dealer's pics of the car. I'll have to take engine pics tomorrow.

missing the exaust manifold gasket? ebay is always an option. i dont like the dealers story though. sounds just like a crook that tried to sell me a car that had a bad engine, i was going to buy it originaly and swap the engine but his story on the truck and other things didnt line up so i drug him along as i was going to buy it. then once i got another vehicle told him sorry. he was mad but not like he wasnt jerking me around. dont let them tell you anything, you call the shots. especialy since he told you rebuilt when he knew infact it was a whole different engine. second off, mileage on used engines isnt always the truth and what went wrong with the original engine? he doesnt have parts off of that, said they were the same engine
Well, I managed to find the Exhaust Manifold, and it's Upper and Lower Heat Shields on the GMPartsDirect website, but unfortunately I have NO idea what the rest of the parts are called.
I looked up my VIN, and it looks like my car came with California emissions, so that probably has something to do with it. Think I'm gonna email them at GMPartsDirect, see if THEY can help me out with the names for the parts.
One of the guys at Advanced Auto (the one who got me the correct K&N filter) suggested a good local shop, so I'll probably run by there tomorrow, too, see if he can help me with the names of these parts. If he's good, knows what he's doing, and takes warranties, I'll have him do the warranty work.
I've noticed it's also been shifting hard sometimes, a few at rather low speeds, and more sometimes when I punch it. I'll have THAT checked out, too.

It has an exhaust manifold on it, but it's the wrong one. The tech said it has the one labeled 535 in the diagram, and needs the one labeled 569 (and that's the one he priced, too. It's the California Emissions one.) I figure if it has that, it has the heat shields, too, and those are the same for both, so I don't really think it needs new ones, but we'll have a mechanic tell me.
