WOW a support group
Just a friendly hello from you neighboryly psychotic reader.
I have a run of the mill 96...nothing fancy but well over a hundred thousand miles and running strong (I think GM messed up on this one and didn't put the 125,000 mile detonation device in it)

Hi,
My mechanic constantly reminds me that newer cars have no reason not to last over 200k. He says that the No. 1 cause of catastrphic engine failure for those of us who maintain them well is the failuire to test or test and replace the catalytic converter. These things fall apart and clog before 100k and create immense back pressures which in turn over heat the valves and cause all sorts of expensive fixes including engine replacment. Image if GM or any other maker would sent out reminder notes every 5 years to replace the cat. They think that they might not sell cars but they don't realize that we'd be their fans forever. Just me 2 cents.
