I just bought 99 MC L's from a guy the ses light has been on forever he said. I took it to AutoZone they said it was the Egr valve so I replaced it. Light still is on. When I got it inspected they said it was code P0401 EGR flow insufficient detected. P0449. They reset the system at the garage. As soon as I got back on the Hwy light came back on.
