To rebuild or not to rebuild?
welcome to the forum, There are tons of helpfull people here, so what the problem with your motor?, what shape is your monte in, any pics? we Love pics here at MCF
I was given a 72 monte carlo from a friend for 500. He and his dad were restoring the engine when the dad dropped a nut down the carbureator they heard dinging and cut the motor off the guy has no more time to fix it so he gave it to me. A good chance to fix up a classic
Its a 350 small block I was wondering if anybody knew anything i could try before rebuilding or replacing the engine. any help will be greatly appreciated.

oooo nut down the carb well first things first you'll have to tear it down to see the extent of the damage... if it stoped at the valve a rebuild is doiable with a new set of heads if it made it into
Just pull the head on the side that the nut fell down into and check for damage. Check the valves and the pistons for damage. If there isnt any damage, just remove the nut, put it back together and see if you can get it running. If there is damage to the valves, you can either replace the valves or find a junkyard head and bolt it on.
ok thanks for the info. would you happen to know where i could find out the different year engines that would fit into a 72. I was told that it might be cheaper to buy a used fuel injected engine and convert that into a carbureated???? I dont know if that is possible. Just trying not to get ripped off by some of these guys out here that will sell you junk.
really any 305,350,400 or any SBC will bolt right in no issue if you want to look for a newer motor go for the vortec 350 of if it's just the heads that are junk look for some vortec heads, get the
