Obviously you found out it's completely different than a TH350/400. About the only way to make this work with the column shifter is to get the rod off of a older vehicle that came with a column shift and a 2 speed and modify it into your car. There is a slight chance it might have the same bends, but I'd bet you'll need a welder. Best chance for one fitting would be a Nova or Camaro from 67-72 as I believe that was the last they ever used a powerglide. Btw I really like the aftermarket kickdown cable, I used the factory style rod in my 2002 build.

Thanks for your reply, yes i found this out the hard way lol. Just a bit annoyed my trans builder whom ive had approx 5 trans rebuilt by never questioned about whether it had a column or floor shifter as he had removed the original shift bracket off the trans and put that one in the pics on. As you may be able to see i wont be able to drop the pan and remive the shift bracket rod due to the firewall. Also next issue in NZ is there wouldnt be any of those rods you speak of due to the limited numbers of US cars in NZ to start with...lol.
just got my 383 running two days ago an im busting for a drive....damn it.
are we able to post videos of our cars
?

No unfortunately we can't post videos. If I remember correctly the column shifter is completely different on a powerglide and that one on the transmission is pretty close to factory. I believe I have a stock version at home in my toolbox. I can check in a few days when I get home. If so we'll figure something out. Otherwise the two options are either getting a floor shifter or taking a piece of threaded rod and welding to what you have currently.

Yea, we can post videos here but the viewer will have to download it before viewing. I think the easier option is upload the video elsewhere and post the link here.

I found my old one and unfortunately it's not a column shifter style. Personally I'd get ahold of the builder and get the original one back. Obviously it a pain to install in the car but not impossible. The stock pan has a drain plug so atleast you can save the fluid and reuse. Pulling the crossmember isn't that difficult and you should be able to leave the driveshaft in the transmission. Honestly I didn't realize the Monte came with a two speed, must be a rarely equipped for a 70-72 Good luck
