I am looking at and thinking about buying a 1998 Monte Z34 with 40,000 miles on it. It has the 3.8 liter V6. I use to have a 1996 with the 3.4 liter and wasn't too impressed with it. How is the 3.8 liter? Has 200 hp?

3.8 should be quiete a bit better, plus not as many engine problems with the intake manifolds and stuff

definetely a good way to go good price?

Buying from a 65 year old relative who owned if since it was brand new. His second vehicle, only 40,000 miles, he never ever drove it in winter so it looks brand new. Selling for $5,000. I think it's s decent deal? What do you guys think?

i know its a relative and everything, but i'd check to see what they're going for everywhere else, i'm not too familiar, buti know the newer body styles you can sometimes pick up them for that price (2000-2005 style), just be careful, sometimes dealing with family can be big problems, personally just sounds like a lot of money to me, i'd think more around 2500-3000 because its 13yrs old already

Maybe I'll offer him less then and see what he says? So what are some easy mods for the 3.8? Also, I see it is a "3800 Series II" what is that? Are the 3.8 liters now up to series 3 or 4??

Are there any major problems that I should know about this car?

Welcome to the site! lots of options for the 3.8. have a look at zzperformance.com for stuff like PCM upgrades, turbo kits, modifying your motor to be supercharged or even headers and exhaust parts.

check ebay too for appearance items (ie headlights etc.) and rksport.com.

feel free to ask any questions
