Matt: I've been doing some research, but unfortunately, not much has come out for the 3.9L yet.
First is the obvious. Have a Cold Air Intake custom made, some alum bent tubes and a universal cone type K&N and voila.... CAI.After that, exhaust. Unfortunately if you've heard the 3.9 exhaust, you know that there isn't a heck of a lot of room for improvement. First thing would be a high flow Catalytic converter, then you might want to look at replacing the resonator with a piece of straight pipe.after that, the mufflers aren't much of a bottleneck, but they can be replaced for better sound. If you don't increase the tubing over stock, then you shouldn't lose to much low end torque, but you will lose some. One of the beneifits of the GREAT 3900 is it's torque curve (see attached picture). This car has 90% of available torque from like 1800 rpm and up! less backpressure means the torque will increase overall, but it won't come available until later in the RPM range.
After that, there's not much. Re-tuning will see some benefit, but the tuners that are out there are one, pricey, and two, they fit such an incredible range that I wonder about the true benifit that can be had from them.
Plus, the stock transmissions are rated for like 285 HP, anything after intake, exhaust and tuning, could overpower and start to seriously effect the transmissions life.
