Default New from PA 98 3.1 monte

Hi, my name is Robyn and I am a MC Addict. (stands up and waves) It's the car I never even knew I wanted, until I owned one.

I just bought my white monte carlo (wrecked...) on Mother's Day. Needed some whips to get to work, and that's when I bought Carla. She's my daily driver with believe it or not, 180,000 original miles on her engine and trans. Still runs strong. Clean under that hood, no grease to be found. You could eat off her engine. Not that you'd want to....

She's an M code 3.1 Monte LS that has....issues. Lots of issues. I only paid 500 for her, she's got no rust, and as I'm working on her she will be better with time. Right now I'm just trying to work all the kinks out and I will make a post with any issues I'm having, I'm really relying on people that have owned these cars' help! Will post pictures, but I'm embarassed. Got a different color hood and her fender is still in primer.

Thanks Jim!

I'm from pittsburgh. Well, a little town outside of pittsburgh. But close enough. The city is only a 15 minute drive from me. I'll get some pictures of her in the next couple days, I usually work from 2:30 in the afternoon on. I am not even usually awake so early but I just brought carla back from the shop.....

JJ yours is beautiful. not a big fan of blue, but, it's still a nice ryde. Was thinking about getting some angel eyes headlights for mine... can't decide yet. My dad is itching to wetsand and paint my fender and hood and right now I could give a **** or care less, i want the damn thing to pass PA inspection before I go paintin anything LOL

My mechanic said the squeeka squeeka noise coming from my one tire is my brakes. With the car parked i tried pushing my tires inwards towards the body of the car and they werent wiggling or anything so i'm hoping something just needs greased. Like I said it was wrecked and needed a frame pull. Mine's gonna be white and hot pink when i'm done.

Anybody know where I can find a grill for mine? I don't like the billet grilles i've been seein they're ugly as hell, and i need some window deflectors too. slowly but surely folks, slowly but surely. I'll post pictures of her tomorrow, it's been rainin (or really hot) and i've been workin non stop. I have no life!

welcome to the forum! i understand the " sub $1000 car blues" all to well, haha. if your brakes are squeeking, the pads could be down to the wear tabs, which cause them to squeek to let you know they need to be replaced. shop around at local parts stores to find the best price, but to do both front wheels parts should run between $25 - $45, which is cheeper that rotors. have your mechanic pull the rear drums and check them as well. mine needed pads, and they were way cheep. if you want, i have acess to a program that can generate what the recommended labor cost is for most kinds of work, and i can do a serch for you

as for the grill, there is not much other than the billit ones. if i were you, i would look for a used bowtie off of a Z-34 model, as the plastic suround in 5th gen LS models always cracks and looks like hell. a Z-34 would have just the bowtie, and you could paint it hot pink against the white bumper and hood to make it really POP!

and if you need graphics or overlays designed / made, JJ does some killer work!

i know monte carlo 3831 is nearby you too, and as jim said hes from up this way. im over in NEPA, right on the deleware.

i cannot wait to see some pics of your 5th gen!

Matt nice to see a fellow burgher! If you see a white 98 monte with a maroon hood and a grey cut in fender, that's me! LOL The redhead with the oversized sunglasses!

JJ's ride is beautiful... I'd love to see what he can do for me as far as vinyls go... I want something semi-permanent. I bought a used hood. there was a slight dent (circular) in the middle... the paint isn't cracked though so that can be popped out with a plunger i bet... the front was ALL smashed!

Skylark when my car got hit... the part where the bowtie sits... well there's a plastic thing stickin up.... but ain't no bowtie. I think it's cracked! Also, my hood doesn't hit my headlights at the exact same spot on both sides because of the wreck... I don't think she'll ever be the same again but she'll STILL be a looker. I LOVE the idea of the hotpink bowtie. My mechanic said he'd charge me 50 bucks for the labor for the brakes. I want GOOD brakes though, and autozone's parts are crap so I hear. Anybody got any links to direct me to so I can get decent parts?
