Thanks folks!

SCC, the best advice I can give you about your engine bay...is do it one part at a time. My engine bay looked terrible, lots of road grime and dirt, etc. Fortunately, the car's not that old and the mileage was real low, so cleaning it up wasn't too bad. First thing to do is get the engine detailed. Let someone else do the crap work and take responsibility for getting it wet. From there, it's one component at a time. I did my own intake, valve covers, and alternator. Removed 'em, sandblasted 'em, then clearcoated 'em with hi-temp clear coat. I polished the inside of the intake manifold while I had it off. A Dremel tool, electric drill, and a 8" extension shaft with a cylindrical grinding stone were all I used.

I stuffed little wads of paper towel into the alternator vents to prevent any residue or paint from getting to the internals, and sprayed the plastic rear portion of the alternator with hi-temp flat black paint. Some parts, like motor mounts, can be sprayed while still installed provided you mask properly - lots of newspapers and masking tape and a good spray gun are all you need.

Anyway...that's how I did it.

Ok, I'm busted. Yes, I build models for a living...so attention to detail is somewhat of a disorder for me...but like I said, everyplace else, I'm a slob...only the end results of the work are clean and neat and detailed - everything else that surrounds it is a disaster area.

I noticed that too...saw some of your earlier posts when I was a lurker. I had a GM-logo windshield cling on mine for awhile, but they tend to come off at 100mph+ so I didn't bother replacing it.
