Welcome to the site. There are a few things that can cause a cat to fail. Here is some info that may help. HowStuffWorks "How do I know if my catalytic converter has failed?"

Welcome!

Sounds like a clogged cat to me. The check engine light flashing is a misfire.

You need to do a full tune-up on this car and get the cat checked out.

Cats go bad typically by running rich.

I appreciate all the welcomes, I think those saying its the cat are right. I replaced the fuel filter today and while i was under there I tapped on the cat with a hammer... sounded like it was full of rocks.

Has anyone used a universal high flow cat or is best to just get one that is designed for the car? I'm looking to save some money if at all possible.

ZZperformance.com sells a downpipe with a high-flow cat. It's a great upgrade, however aftermarket cats throw P0420 codes on these cars.

You would need to remove the p0420 code from the car's computer.
