Default New Monte

New member here, just bought a 2006 Monte Carlo for $100 yesterday, car needs rack and pinion, new starter, and has a problem with the alternator, it caught on fire when I touched it without car running. But for $100 you can’t beat it , it’s a silver Monte with the 3.9 runs great at 215k miles, car was on the road about a month ago, but the guy i bought it from left the windows down for 2 weeks and whole interior was molded, I plan on fixing the car completely, then finding a wrecked ss or ltz for the interior. I have never owned a Monte before, but have wanted to buy several, here are some pictures of the car

Put bumper back on earlier, and cleaned a lot. Going to get a starter tomorrow morning.

Definitely looks like some heavy TLC is needed. Hopefully it is mechanically sound and body is solid. The good news is, buying it for $100, you have a very low investment. If it runs, work to clean it up and see what happens then.

I would advise taking the seats out and potentially pulling the carpet out to completely clean everything and dry it out.

That's a smoking deal for $100! They could've gotten more than that selling the car for scrap metal.

yes definitely some heavy tlc, but I went to junkyard today, and got a starter, now the car runs and drives but has a power steering problem steering wheel turns by itself, car is running great, I cleaned the interior some more, definitely am going to take the seats out of it and pressure wash, car smells like a foot. But got it washed up and drove it a few miles, no problem

Fixed power steering today, wheel doesn’t turn by itself anymore, drove the car about 5 miles, and broke down 3 times, coolant temp sensor is new, but stops working when you hit potholes, tie rod ends are for sure bad, and the car has a death wobble when you get to around 40mph, also needs a new cv axle on passenger side

yep, worst smelling, and worst driving car I’ve ever been in, smells gone now though, car still has a long way to go before it goes back on the road.

Sounds like the front end needs a refresh. Inspect control arms, bushings, tie rods, everything....
