Hello, my name is Benjamin. Soon to be living out of Knoxville, Tennessee again for college.

I've had my 02 Monte Carlo 3.4L since February 2005. [~41,000 miles]

She's a nice quiet ride, but she's got a low power 3400. Recently took her out on a backroad and found her governer set at ~105mph. I was very upset.. 105mph is baby food. For some reason I thought I had hit ~120 about a year ago on the interstate. Maybe it was downhill or something.

All I've got in her is a K&N filter. I doubt Lana will be draining anything from my wallet..

Here's my Car Domain Profile.

Ya I think the governer's are set that low because of the tires. Most OEM tires aren't meant for speeds above 90mph for long periods of time.

Welcome to the forum, Benjamin.

How fast has everyone been in their 2000+ V-6 montes on level ground? I've hit around 120/125 on southbound I-95 here in Las Vegas. I thought I felt the governor kick in, but wasn't sure.

Thanks for the welcome.

We might want to just start a new thread for that under General Monte Carlo Talk.

135 so far. I think max is 140 unless you kill the RPM limiter.

I haven’t gone full speed in my SS yet but I did hit 100 one time and there was a warning tone like when you leave your keys in the ignition. I thought that was pretty funny.

Yellow Monte has a point about the tires and excessive speeds, just remember the brakes and suspension are maxed out at high speeds too. Please EVERYONE be careful and make sure you have plenty of room to stop. After racing late model stock cars for 14 years and hitting the wall at well over 100 mph more times then I want to mention I'm a pretty big safety advocate. Those cars are designed to take hard hits and protect the driver, our street cars, not so much.

Ok, done preaching now.
