Default New member with a 1977 Monte Carlo

This Tuesday I'm going to buy a 1977 Monte Carlo and I'd like to hear some general comments regarding this year. This car has 66k original miles and is in overall good condition, my question is, is 1k a good price for it? It isn't a rust bucket passes inspection, and is driven on a daily basis some insight would be greatly appreciated. I'd also like to know what to look out for in Monte's in this year range positive comments are also welcome.

A 4th gen with only 66k and not a rust bucket, awesome, great find! You should check the rearend area for rust issues, up under the rear wheel and trunk area in particular! Welcome to the forum!

Welcome to the site - sounds like a good deal and low miles for a car that's seen daily driving.

My room mate and I can work on cars, he's a lot better than I am. We are in college right now and he's a pretty seasoned auto mechanic I am learning from him. As for the car owner I am really not sure how many owners it had, but it belonged to a grandfather of a family and once he passed they put it up for sale. The passenger door needs to be readjusted and it's missing a mirror but other than that it's solid the guy that's selling it drives it to work daily and it's inspected and insured. The car is from buffalo NY which means it does have some rust but it isn't a rust bucket. I never saw pictures of the frame or trunk though. I really wanted to grab it because 1k for a daily driven 1977 Monte Carlo that isn't a rust bucket sounds pretty ridiculous and if I were to paint it and service the car I feel like the value would go up considerably. I have the intentions of keeping it for myself for a lifetime though. Here are a few questions I did have for it though,

1. I don't really like the tail lights in the 1977 Monte Carlo's is a 1971 taillight conversion possible, if so what's recommended? If this conversion is made would it make the value of the car go down considerably?

2. I want to improve the gas mileage of the car what tips do you have to do this? I figured removing seats and replacing them with racing seats would be a good start more tips would be greatly appreciated. If any of you actually own a 1977 Monte Carlo and know what gas mileage it typically gets please do tell.

3. How durable are the engines in the 1977 Monte Carlos? Are they pretty much down and out, by 100k miles?

4. Do you any of you guys know any sites that are good for hood vents, I tried ebay, but I couldn't find any cowl induction hood vents which was a real downer. lol
