First off thank you for having this great site. My question is about my dashboard gauges. I will be driving and all of a sudden the gauges turn off and then come back on as if i just started my car. Does anyone know why this is happening and what can be done to fix it? The car itself keeps running fine as if nothing happend so im thinking its a wire or something is lose. Please help.

Welcome to the site!
Yeah it sounds like it could be something as simple as a loose ground, or a loose or weak fuse.
I seem to remember someone here having that problem before. But that was backat leasttwo months ago. I can'tremember who it was.

Hi Black Beauty & Welcome to the MCF.
Have you installed a aftermarket Radio, or equipment ?
I agree with `Mod Taz, about a lose ground wire, or I've read
it also could be a bad dimmer switch. (They do go bad,
and a sign is that they start to start shorting and can cause
the dash lights/gauge to come on & `off.
I would suggest, changing the fuses also for the subject area.
Good Luck on track'in down your prob's.

Hello Black Beaty and welcome the the Monte Carlo Forum. Sorry to hear about your problem, but the fact is, it is a car, and seems to me as long as I've been driving, (a LONG time) I've had car problems. So the problem is the guages themselves quit, not just the lights? I'm guessing that because the instrument cluster is 100% electric, the connector on the back of the cluster is loose, or maybe even broken because it was improperly removed before. If you have problems with lights flickering and the such, it's your body control module, but that doesn't sound like your problem.
Start with the connector, and let us know.

welcome. not sure on the price. but honestly the dashes in these cars are so easy to tear apart that it is not funny.

takes like 4 screws and a jerk to ge tthem apart.
im with rockn SS pn this one sounds to me as if the guage cluster its self has come lose or the conection etc... before i went to a dealer i would check all of the connections on it to make sure they are not just lose . but i guess if you have the cash to burn go for the stealership.

There is a couple of screws on the trim panel holding it on, under the steering wheel. The instrument cluster facia just pulls straight out. Tilt the wheel down and put the shifter into 1st to give you extra room. The actual cluster has 2 or 4 screws holding it in. The connector is in the back, top left. You can probably reach it without removing the cluster. Not sure. Start with that.
