New Here...
Good Afternoon!! I joined just now for my brothers sake. He is too busy at work....OK...I'm at work too....(shhh...)
He is looking at a 2002 Monte SS Pace Car.
I love Chevy's. Always have. Been driving them for so long I don't remember NOT driving one. (I had a 70 Monte back when cars were disposable.....miss that car a LOT!) I LOVE Impala's too. I am Admin on ImpalaForums.com as well.
The reason I am here is to ask how the Monte's from the early 2000's run. I take it they use the same transmissions the Impala's do. The car has 77k on it and they want $5000. It is yellow and has the Tasmanian Devil on it as well...
What do you think? A good buy?
Thanks for your input!

I bought an '03 SS new, and it was a great-driving car. Never had any issues with that thing. That being said, it was unfortunately totaled out with only 33K miles on it so I can't really comment on one with 77K.... Miss that car.
I'd say if the car isn't in disrepair, it's a good buy. If you have to spend $5000 and THEN fix major issues, I'd keep looking....
In my town, there's a shop that has an '01 Pace Car that they're asking $1800 for. They've had it for at least three months with no takers. It has no headlight fixtures, the right front decal is missing (assume because of the same accident that necessitated the headlight removal...) and has bad tires, two of which are on the ground. It has a 3800 engine in it, but who knows if it runs or not... If you bought it you'd likely spend as much or more than what it would be worth just to get it to an acceptable level. But it sure would look purty!

Thanks for the reply! As far as I know, Chevy's are good cars, and 77k is pretty low for mileage.
I was wondering if there were any Monte Carlo idiosyncrasies....Like the 2000-2004 Impala's have an issue with the BCM....and all the dashboard guages go wonky...I think all cars have their own, and was wondering what the Monte's were....

The gauges on the Montes have bad stepper motors .
I replaced some on my 2005 Monte Carlo SS Supercharged
and replaced they on my wife's 2005 Impala SS

I have a 03 ss with 150K on it ....it has no quirks, only regular and mileage determined maintenance, there is a thread on here about 100K milage maintenace, so looking at those things on the car might help.
I paid 5K for mine, but was well maintained and had just gotten new brakes, wheels, and tires and plugs, wires ect
