New guy here with 2nd Gen Monte
Hi all,
New to the group here but have owned a few big Monte's in the past.
When I got out of drag racing a couple years ago I wanted a nice street cruiser and found it in a clean low miles 73 Monte Carlo, only 42,000 on it and drives like new, even the ac still works.
Its pretty basic as far as Montes go, about the only option is rear defrost, the only complaint is the 350 2 barrel is just to boring, going to fix that in a couple weeks with a fresh off of the dyno 496 big block that made 550 horsepower and 595 ft lbs torque, putting turbo 400 behind it and a mellow sounding dual exhaust. Also updating the ac to R134 and we will be ready for some cruise nights and the occasional trip to the track.
See a lot of posts with newer cars in here, hopefully there are a few 2nd gen guys hiding out too.
Mike

Welcome to the site Mike. New here myself. I have a 2001 ss but man I LOVE those older 2nd gen. cars... plenty of room under those hoods to stuff a big rat motor!
After the new engine install I would love to hear the car.
Keep us updated.

Nice car! Welcome! I also have a 73, I just rebuilt the carb last week it has a quadrajet 4 bl and the engine is a 350. Slowly getting it ready to go for the spring. I really need to find some new rims for it. Im only the 2nd owner and a little old lady had it before. I like the color of your car, havent seen one like that.

Thanks guys,
My wife doesn't like the color, but its gonna stay because its kind of unique, you see lots of maroon, black and tan ones but I have never seen another one like this in person, I do have an old dealer ad that has one this color.
She didn't like the car much either when I brought it home, she wanted a nova, but after a riding to a couple cruise nights in smooth air conditioned comfort, and getting compliments everywhere we went she has decided that maybe its not so bad.
After the summer is over and the cruises are done its going to paint jail, the paint on the trunk and right rear fender is looking a little dry, also will get a new top and stainless trim for the opera windows, and I scored a really nice set of swivel buckets at the swap meet a couple weeks ago.
I did a little research and its hard to believe a car this clean and rust free came from Kanas City.
The swap should be pretty easy, I already have all the brackets, my only concern is the headers, the engine has brodix heads that have raised exhaust ports and that has been known to cause problems.
