How do I get a free car fax on a vehicle? I need one for a 2001 Monte Carlo.

Thanks for any help!

Welcome to the forum. There is no way to get a free carfax. Either you have to pay for it or someone who has bought a plan will need to run your vin. I believe they frown upon people doing that tho. If the car you are looking at is at a dealer, you can ask them to pull the carfax for you.

Welcome to the site. If you are buying the car from a dealer they should give you one for free. If you are buying it outright I think it costs like $30 for one carfax report.

Hi Cindyo!

Welcome to the forum!

A carfax is always helpful in making a decision. But shouldn't always be taken as 100% accurate. A local Detroit tv station's news department did a story on Carfax not too long ago. And they found vehicles that had many glaring omissions on the Carfax report. Carfax only shows you the damage/accidents that were officially reported. Any damage that was repaired, but never reported to authorities won't show up on the Carfax.

Like I said though, a carfax report is definitely better than nothing. I don't have a carfax account, seeing as carfax is not fully in Canada yet. Although I hear they're starting to setup here.

Hopefully someone here will be able to help you out.

Welcome to the forum. Like the other said ask the seller to run a car fax report.
