Default New from Chicago

Hey guys,

Just wanted to introduce myself officially. Just bought an 06 Monte SS with 64k on it. Couldn't be happier with it. Stumbled on this site after searching into the slight rust/ bubbling issues as I have a minor case of it too. Getting it repaired next week with new sheet metal. Car is really clean besides that. Already got a little bit of the mod bug itching and had the windows tinted all around. Anyone on here ever do a retrofit on their headlights? If so, any pictures? I've also read a little bit that the trans is the weak link with these? Anything I should watch for? Preventive maintenance besides checking the oil. Small upgrades?

Thanks!

Love the car so far. Picks up really nice on the highway. The reason I asked about the trans is because I also have a TBSS and the trans was a weak one on those too. Just seeing if maybe a trans cooler or changing the servos works. Is the trans the same as the impala SS?

welcome! Trans is the same in the Impala SS 04-09

Trans in these cars are not the greatest, but don't let that scare you off. I know plenty of owners whose trans are solid, including 2 of them right in my driveway above 90k miles. I even know one LS4 owner up over 160k on the stock trans. Just take care of her and she will take care of you

Hi Crunk,
It's the same trans as the Impala S.S.

I will let the owner's of the 06/07 Monte S.S. answer your questions about the reliable of their transmissions. To me it seems they go bad 'if they are abused. Keep exploring the MCF (there's tons of infor on your Monte)

Wish you safe/fun & reliable miles in your S.S.
