Alright, well, i'm new to montes, but not really to cars, although its sad b/c i'm only 18 and i've already owned 3 cars, and i'm starting on my 4th which is why i'm here. I have recently been offered a 2002 Monte Carlo SS for $2,700. It has 160,000 miles on it, but they are all highway which can be seen by the cars average gas milage (27.6mpg). I think that i am going to buy it, but i am wondering a couple things... 1.) How reliable are montes known to be 2.) Can a Monte Carlo be turned into a Grand Prix GTPkiller with under $1000 in mods (long story, my buddy told me that its possible, and i dont believe him.) 3.) Should i be worried about the milage, and what should i inspect more thoroughly than everything else?

Thanks alot, Graydon

Oh, and i also forgot, other than 3800performance.com what other websites are there for performance parts, and what are the first performance parts that you should install? I've noticed the throttle body spacer that is available, and i've also noticed a performance chip by surge engineering that claims 35 horsepower gains. Is it too good to be true? lol, sorry for asking all of these questions.

first of all welcome, i'm on my fifth car and i'm 20 so i wouldn't worry about it. i have had my monte for about 7 or 8 months, and i have already put on 8,000 miles on it. i have had only one repair and that was the fuel regulator. i did a tune up also. i haven't had a single problem with my monte *knock on wood* questions are always welcomed here so ask away. my buddy is on his second GTP, and everything possible you can do to that car has been done. i'm not sure what you can do for under a thousand that will beat a GTP, but if you do a thread search look for performance guides. there are some nice ones on here. another site you can go to is www.zzperformance.com usually whatever works for a grand prix should work for a Monte Carlo.

Once again Welcome!
