Default New 2003 Monte Carlo SS

Well you can all see my previous post about the 2002 Pace Car... so I'm not a complete newb. But to replace the Pace car I searched around connecticut and massachusetts, and looked at 3 different ones, including a 2002 Intimidator car before I found one that had a rust free body and no mechanical leaks anywhere. It is a black SS with leather seats, although it's missing a lot of the options that my Pace Car had. No factory heated seats (looks like aftermarket ones but only passenger side works) No Onstar, no power passenger seat, no diamond cut wheels, no nascar raised spoiler, no ground effects but will be a good daily driver with 107,000 miles on the odometer. Photos to follow.

I fixed a few items following the informative posts on this site, including replacing the climate control light bulbs, replacing the steering wheel switches that had the paint peled off, and I'm waiting on a new factory stereo with an aux port added on. I also ordered a new front fascia as the lower nose on this one has a hole torn in it.

Also I ordered the Trans Go 4T65E Shift Kit which I am planning to install this weekend along with a new filter and Dextron VI fluid.

The only problem I have so far is today the Check engine light came on, when I got to work I found the gas cap was loose. I had the guy at Autozone read the codes and he told me it showed the loose gas cap code but should reset after a while, hopefully that's a fact since after driving around for 20 minutes the light is still on.

Sounds like your on the right steps to get it to where you are going to want it with the new parts you've ordered. Looking forward to seeing the pics when you post them. You can always change the spoiler fairly easy, periodically one will come up for sale here on the forum, as well as the factory diamond rims and they are usually at a good price if that is what you are wanting to do to your car.

You may want to just purchase a new gas cap, they periodically fail, I've replaced them on both of my cars.

The light will shut off after it goes through it's cycle if it is sealed correctly. Make sure you hear a minimum of 3 clicks when tightening the gas cap

Thanks ohara, the light was off when I started the car this morning, just took a while longer than I thought it would to reset it. I have seen the high sport/ Pace car spoilers for sale on ebay, but in order to put them on the SS with surfboard spoiler the trunk needs to have the old holes filled and repainted before the new one can be installed, and since I don't do welding that might be beyond my ability at this time.

Dave:
Welcome back...
Sounds like you pretty much have a handle on things...

As far as changing to a different spoiler...

I too do not have any welding equiptment/skills... So, I opted to have a collision shop do the welding/painting and it looks right as rain and wasn't all that expensive either!
Keep us posted as you continue your Mods!

Welcome and sorry to hear about the pace car and how soon it happened. I used to have an 03 SS and had it totaled so I know all about that. Nice looking 03 SS, like the black.
