Default In the market for a monte...but what year?

Hello all! This is my first post here. I've got a 93 BonnevilleSSEthat i've loved for the last 8 years, but its time to trade up. I've got my heart set on a Monte SS, but am wondering what year i should get. It'll either be an 04-05 L67, or an 06-07 V8. How does the reliability of those two engines compare? Mileage? Serviceability? Also, is the L67 a series 2 or 3?

Any opinions or comparisons of the two generations welcome, as well as links to good threads.

i have an 06' SS (for sale, check the for sale section) its a great car, on the highway it sees 33 mpg at 55. 65, about 28. in the city its about 18.
myne has a custom paint job on it, really cool.

the enigine itself is projected to be really reliable, becasue it has really thick cylender walls, it is aluminum so it cools much better. i have read that is is one of the most foreseen reliable engines next to the ls7.

I heard that the northstar V8's have head gasket problems because the threads for the head bolts in the aluminum block aren't strong enough to keep the heads tight...this isn't an issue with the Montes? What is the designation of the monte v8?

no the v-8 northstars are completely different engines. they are custom to cadilac. the ls4 is based on the lsx blocks. very strong very capable. no known problems

The L67 engines are the series 2. Only the GPs had the series 3 L67.
Depends on how deep your pockets are as to which car you get. I think you'll be happy with either. I couldn't afford the v8 when I got mine. I've put 84,000 miles on my L67, with the only problems being flex plates breaking. But then I'm running 315hp. Warranty fixed the 1st, my nickel+ on the 2nd. I couldn't say about the v8 issues.

The 04/05 Supercharges SS's are great, but there is a noticeable difference in the power of the 06/07 SS V8. I would suggest test driving both and you will feel the difference! I traded in my 2000 GTP in for the SS V8, my GTP had the same supercharged engine that is in the 04/05 supercharged SS.

No doubt, if you are chosing between those cars, the 06/07 with the V8 is the only way to go. YOU HAVE to get the V8 if you can afford it.

Now what is the differenve between the 06 SS & the 07 SS?????? OnStar! You may or may not want to use OnStar, but if you plan on using OnStar then you HAVE TO go with the 2007. I have a 2006 SS and was dissapointed when I found out the Turn-by-turn Navigation is not available. It is ONLY available on the 2007 so if that is important to you then get the 07, if you aren't going to use OnStar then you can probably get a better deal on the 06.
