Default just got a 02 ss

I just got a 02 monte ss with 190,000 on it. The car is in great shape and runs mint. I got it for $1000. Im just wondering if it would be worth it to do bolt ons at this point with it having so many miles on it. And if so what could doing full bolt ons add for hp increase. Also what would the first few thing you guys would do with your montes for bolt ons.

If the car hasn't had the trans rebuilt it will most likely need it done soon. Other than that these engines are bullet proof so building them is fine.

I'm with David, my 02 SS has a bad TCC. With 181,000 miles I have next to no 3rd gear. Fluid is recently changed and the old fluid was clean. It just started not going to third one day. If you are going to do anything, at least get the Trans checked First, then all your Sensors, do a Tune Up if you haven't including new Belt, Battery, Air, Oil and Fuel Filter. flush the radiator. All the maintenance stuff that you can't be sure was done before you got your 02 unless they provided receipts for it.
Even with 190,000 miles on the car, To get it for $1000 is a steel. There may be a reason who they let it go for that price?????
If it all checks out then you got a GREAT DEAL!!!!

It would also depend on if you plan on keeping the car too but they are really nice and worth keeping in my opinion.

to the MCF! Sounds like you found yourself a great find!Montes for 1000 are hard to find. As far as modding goes, do it! These moters came in everything and are not hard to find, so if you blow it up just go get another one! Now, just like everyone said the trans in these cars are not so hot, I got lucky when I got mine and it had just been rebuilt. That would be one of the first things I would do if I was you.

I just didnt want to go modding it with that many miles and blow it up or somthing. So i will do the tranny rebuild before anything. Ill do exhaust, cai, maybe a chip if there are decent power gains with them in these cars. Advice on that would be helpfull and what size throttle bodys are good for these. Also maybe changing the rear end gears if it would help. Im new to the monte carlos so i dont have very much experiance wiyh them

Chips are useless. You need a full pcm tune.

A good CAI, front powerlog, and ZZP downpipe will help waken up the car.

Chips aren't for these engines. PCM Tunes are where you get the gains. Do this last though.

Stock is fine until you get boost.

That won't help much with your FWD car

Check out this link and look at the L36 section: (https://montecarloforum.com/forum/fw...n-3800s-10942/)

You can swap a Getrag 284 into the car, but it's not very easy.

Here are two people who have done it in other W-Body vehicles
