Default Just bought a 71 4 speed

Hey guys, liked your forum, so I joined. You guys know your stuff and I thought you might be able to help me out. I just bought a 71 with a big block and a 4 speed. I checked the engine and it is not original, it is a 73-85 454 with oval port heads. The trans is a 4 speed, not sure which one, and it has the factory bench seat.
My question is how do I find out what engine and trans originally came with my Monte? Thanks guys, let me know If I am posting in the right spot for this type of question, Talk soon. Mark.
