Hello from North Texas
Hello folks. Although I registered on MCF over a year ago and have been a lurker, I thought I'd say Howdy.
I'm fortunate to own one of four yellow/blue 2004 Monte Carlo SS pace cars that GM assigned for actual NASCAR pace car duty in 2004, and some races in 2005.
I saw my first real deal MC pace car sell in person back in 2007 at Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale. A year later I bought what became the first of two Chevy SSR pace trucks (a 2003 and 2005) I was to own, both used in NASCAR in 2005 and '06, also sold out of the GM Heritage collection.
While searching the net for pictures I came across shots of my SSR doing duty with one of the MC PCs at Bristol Motor Speedway in 2005. I had hoped to one day own one of these Montes to sit beside my SSR. Well life circumstances dictated that I sell my second SSR, but I kept looking for the more affordable MC PCs, and recently acquired one of them. I've been into pace cars since 2001 when I bought a 78 Corvette. In 2009 when the GM Heritage Center had their clean out the warehouse deal and sold over 400 pieces in their collection I bought the #2 (back up) car..err..truck used at the 2001 Indy 500--an Olds Bravada, then in April of that year I picked up the #1 Pontiac Grand Prix pace car used at the 2000 Daytona 500. Bought both of these to sell at some point which I did and today two very avid collectors own them and really do treat them like royalty.
Don't ask a pace car nut why they're so into these things--most can't tell you why, but for me it's about owning my own piece of American racing history. The '78 Vette was fun--have a lot of great friends in the Vette world because of it, but, as a lifelong NASCAR fan, owning real deal pace trucks and now one of the cars with a few hundred caution laps under its belt is a real thrill. Car guys and gals at criuse nights like to hear about what this MC is (still working on getting detais of all the races where mine was used). Part of the allure of acquiring this car was that I actually saw it in person from the grandstands at its last race here in Texas in 2005 at Texas Motor Speedway (TMS). Mine was used as the "split field" car that day in its last race duty. TMS retained (purchased it from GM) the primary and still has it today.
So, glad to be here and hope to meet some of you down the road.

It's a piece of history to me, however I do drive it on nice days and don't consider it a stagnant display museum piece. Fortunately we have quite of few nice days here in North Texas along with year round car shows to take a cruise!
