Default Greetings from another newbie

Hello fellow Monte enthusiasts! My name is Jay, and I will soon be the owner of a used Monte Carlo. When the wife and I decided we both needed daily drivers so we could park the gas guzzling trucks we drive now, I immediately started searching for a 2001-2005 Monte Carlo. Been in love with this car for a while now. And even though I hate to ask already, this being my first day and all, I am down to 2 Montes. the first is a rebuilt 2003 with 63k Jeff Gordon series. It needs some more help, but the price is great. The second is a 2001 with 121k on it, and here is my dilemma. The dealer says it is a Dale Earnhardt series car. I have seen the pictures, and it has all the interior markings of a Dale edition, but I did not think they made one of these in 2001. Am I wrong? Oh, and it even has the supercharged 3.8, although the VIN doesn't reflect it having that engine. Possible engine swap? Any ideas or suggestions for this FNG? Sorry for taking so much space, but I need help figuring this out.

It could either be a swapped engine or they topswapped which means they put a supercharger on the NA motor and hopefully had it tuned for it. I personally would go for the Gordon Monte due to less miles and the fact that nothing has been altered from stock on it. I don't know what years the Nascar Montes were but I think it was like one every year or something.

to the forum Jay! In my opinion go with the Jeff Gordon. It has less miles and I don't see as many Jeff Gordons around as the Dale Earnhardts.

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone! I am still torn over my decision on which Monte to get. I don't like the idea of the 01 having a top swap done, since I don't know if the bottom end will hold up. The 03 is a steal, but it is on a KY rebuilt title as it was hit pretty hard in the driver side "a" pillar, and will need repainting on the driver door, fender, and hood as the paint doesn't match. Also lost the "ghost flames" on those pieces, but that doesn't bother me too much. Decisions, decisions.....Guess it could be worse than trying to decide which Monte to buy, right? Ha ha ha

I'd stick with the gordon monte. A couple bumps & scuffs & body work can easily be fixed. If the dale monte does not have a matching engine, or had the top swap I'd be weary. Not knowing how old or how many miles are on the supercharger you'll be getting one heck of a headache.
