Got my first car, '06 Monte
Hello everyone, I have been looking around the forum and asked a question here and there but I figured I might as well introduce myself now.
I'm 16 and will have my license by the end of the month, so I don't plan to do a whole lot until then because it will be a lot easier to get things done when I can actually go out and get things I need.
Anyway, My brother just bought his own car since he will probably be moving out soon so I am now in possession of his old car which is really now me and my fathers car, but, mostly mine.
Anywho, the body is a little rough on the eyes, but I love the color of mine and the shape of the 7th generation Montes.
Unfortunately it's not an SS, but an LT, but I am going to hopefully be making some modification this summer to spruce it up.
I have a lot of specific questions that I will try to keep to the correct forums so I am kind of just showing everyone my plans in this thread.
If you notice in the pictures, the doors are black instead of beige like the rest of the interior. That is the first thing I have done as far as changes go. I think it looks really nice because it kind of flows with the black dash and the whole front of the beige interior is two-done beige and black so I think it goes well. I actually got the door panels off two different 05 montes I found at the local junk yard, cleaned them up and replaced the hand tops with the my original ones mainly because one of the black ones was broken, and I liked the 7th gen button design better. Plus I think the two tone with the silver looks nice and matches the center console.
The first major thing is to get the hood re-painted as you can tell the clear-coat (I think?) is pealing away. From what I could gather the original owner was in an accident and had the hood replaced and they didn't seal it correctly. I am not sure if I will do that myself or bring it to a shop and have them get all the scratches on the corners out at the same time.
The second thing I want to do with it is replace the stereo which is proving to be harder then I anticipated. From what I understand, in order to keep my steering wheel and On-Star controls, I need to get a special wiring harness which is more expensive then I had hoped to pay and would go past my knowledge. If it was just switching out the units I wouldn't mind doing it myself but I think I might just bring it into Best Buy and have them install it themselves, only because I will probably put the cost on my best buy credit card. (As long as they know how to keep the steering wheel controls and on-star)
Besides that I'll add a Monte Carlo windshield decal, maybe tint the windows too.
And of course, wax and shine it for the first time in a long time
I will post pictures next month when I get around to doing all this!
But for now, this is my baby-
