The car from hell - my '06 SS
Found this forum researching the problems I've been having in my love/hate relationship with my '06 SS - the 4th Monte Carlo I've owned ('72, '76, and '00) since 1991.
I bought the car in April '10, replacing my '00 black SS that I bought brand new, and totally enjoyed driving. I had the '00 for exactly 10 years to the date, and didn't put a fraction of the amount of money I've put into my '06 in 3 years!
This car is snakebit:
- Less than 3 months in, I'm hit by some jackass speeding and crossing the median to get around traffic, causing extensive hood and front passenger side damage. Happened a block from my place.
- A year later, it was broken into by some clown who had to throw a large rock 3 times before breaking the passenger side window. After causing a large dent in the door and door frame, as well as breaking the front windshield(!), the thief made off with my gym bag filled with sweaty clothes.
- A few months after, I was rear-ended on the expressway by a lady texting, taking out my rear bumper and turning one of my exhaust pipes into a crazy-straw.
- In addition, there are the numerous repairs and issues that I have found are, unfortunately, common in the '06 - among them: the harmonic balancer, hub assemblies, and the current bane of my existence - the transmission!
With all of this, when this car is running right, I love driving it - plus it looks great! I'm determined to get this car back in shape, and hopefully this forum can help me to that end.

Hello and Welcome to the Forum! WOW, sounds like you need to wear a crash helmet most days when your out in your Monte. Tough break for sure all these issues, especially the burglary, a lot of damage by some hard up idiot, all for a gym bag. And it was most likely tossed into a dumpster once he saW it was not full of hundred dollar bills. Hopefully the normal maintenance does not get out of hand and you can continue to enjoy your 7th Gen. Monte Carlo.

Welcome to the MCF. I also own a 2006 Monte Carlo and they are great to drive. I'm sorry to hear that due to others carelessness that you're Monte has been put through so much. Hope everything goes well with the repairs.
Welcome to the forum
I know in my short time here, the amount of knowledge that I have gained is incredible. There is so much information within the forum it does make maintaining our vehicles a lot easier.
Sorry to hear about the bad luck you have been having with your car since you purchased it. Although I am glad it hasn't scared you off of the car. These cars do have their little demons lurking within them, but when they are running right there is nothing like them.
If your car is throwing codes let us know what they are and someone here will be able to help you out, I know one of the members took the time to post what each code means in order to help pinpoint the problem and assist in getting it fixed without having to pay a shop to do everything.
Looking forward to seeing pics of your car
