Default anyone know about getting new engine?

I am new here. My name is Rhonda and We have a 2003 ss with over 100,000 miles and its beautiful, Have had it since 04 with 16,000 miles on it when bought, but have stared to put a little money into it, which is fine, but, today we found out it needs new engine. its still running but the question is, Where do we get engine for a decent price without going through dealer?

Go to a salvage yard, I bought one for my 2001 SS with the same motor as yours. It only had 80k on it and they backed it up with a 6mo warranty including free oil changes. Salvage yard is your best friend when it comes to needing to get new engines or transmissions

WHY does it NEED a new engine if it is still running?

Does your shop just want to make money? Is it just a simple Intake Gasket?

from my understanding, it's pretty tough to break the bottom end of this engine (unless you rebuild it)... what is your car doing to make you think it needs a new engine?

many members here have well over 100k...

a few of the common issues would be the lower intake gasket, and the shift solenoid in the trans will stick causing delayed shifting.

Yeah, unless your shortblock is busted, there's no need for a new engine. Did they tell you WHY you need a new engine? I'm calling bull****.
