Another Newb
Hello, everyone. After much research, including some here, I bought an 06 Monte Carlo SS a couple of weeks ago. It's black with black leather, "certified" with 12K miles, and as far as I can tell it's got every option except a block heater and two-tone paint. So far, I'm a very happy camper.
I'm not much of a mechanic, but am a definate gear-head, for sure.Unlike the vast majority of buyers today, apparently, I like big, fastcoupes -a breed that is seems to be dead for the moment.
I'm also a moderator at a websitededicated to another big, beautiful and fast American-made coupe that got the production axe in back in 1998.
Anyway, I'm happy to be here. Thanks for the information that helped put an SS in my garage.

When I said "got the production axe in 1998", I meant that's when production ceased. The car is the Lincoln Mark VIII, which is a fantastic "American muscle" coupe, IMO. As seems to be the case with GM and the Monte Carlo in recent years, Ford did a miserable job in marketing the car, resulting in a production-run of only six-years. Sometimes, I believe thatmarketing exec's at GM, Ford and Chrysler must surely be on drugs! One of the most glaring examples of this is the way in which Chrysler mis-marketed the Crossfire (a car I noticed was mentioned in a recent thread). Before deciding on the Monte, I came very close to buying a 2005 Crossfire SRT-6 with 900 miles on the clock. The price through a Chrysler dealer? $23,500!! Unbelievable.
