I'm Andreas, and this summer I bought my first (and only) Monte Carlo. It's a -78 305 Landau with one owner who bought it new back in 78. At the age of 77, the first owner didnt have the energy to restore it to good condition so he decided to sell - to me. It has 80k miles on the clock, has been stored inside a warm garage since 91 and not driven since.
The car is completley stock and well kept, but the swedish winters and salty roads does not come for free. The car needs rust removal at the lower end of the doors, a paint job, rubber seals for the doors and sun roof, and.. pretty much everything exterior. At the same time I'll also take a look at the power train. Since it's been standing since 91 it'll probably need one major service with everything replaced.
I'll probably ask for guidance and advice in the near furture
Some pictures from when me and my dad went to pick it up: This is at the first and original owners summer house and where we picked it up. Still at the first owner. Interior is in good condition. Needs new head liner. Rear seats. Our cars for the day. 9 hrs after pick up waiting for the ferry. 540d Touring -18 and Monte Carlo -78. Contrasts.

Welcome from the States! I'm always intrigued seeing these cars oversees - I've seen a few. I like that red interior and it looks like it's in pretty good condition. Are you thinking of restoring the car back to original condition or going more modified, like a resto mod? These 3rd gen Montes always look good modified when done right - I like how they look lowered personally.
Similar Monte at a Carshow I was at not to long ago.
Beautiful. Really like the lines of the car!

Thank you!
At least here in Sweden, these cars are very rare. One or perhaps two a year come out for sale, so I'm a lucky man to come across one - especially with this history record. My plans are to do something more like the one you posted. Will keep the interior stock except for a new radio and speakers, but as for the exterior I'll go with black and chrome. I'm a little inspired of "Training Day" I guess, which actually is why this car first caught my eye back in 2003 or something like that.
Is it your car on the picture? Looks great! Just perfect.

I like that idea. Looking forward to seeing your progress and what you do to it. Red always contrasts really well with black. Hell, I have some red accents on mine that work really well with the black.

No, this is mine below - 2006 SS with the 5.3L LS4 V8. I've owned it for nine years and at this point it's mainly a show car and fair weather driver. This is the second 6th gen Monte I've owned (first was an 03 SS which was my first car). Someday I really want an '87 SS Aerocoupe and have both my '06 and the '87. I've loved the Aerocoupes for a long time. My dad had a 72 when I was a kid, that's how I got interested in these cars.

Once I get started with the restauration, I'll post as much as I can in a new thread. Just ordered parts for $1400 plus shipping $900 and added to that is 13% customs fee and 25% VAT. Happy life...
Love your car. Looks stunning, and seems to be in very cood condition too. Low milage? I like they kept some of the lines from the past generations on the front and rear fenders.
Welcome here dude
I hope we bump into eachother in Budapest
Yeah that would be great When I have the car all done with drivetrain and body work I will take it for a longer trip down in Europe! From where in the United States do you order your parts to the MC?

Well not sure if this counts as advertising but i do get my parts off Ebay (used stuff emblems interior), Rockauto (stock), Summitracing (tuning) as last resort OPGI
I am interested in more options also, as i had bad experiences with nearly all of them.

Ouch, doesnt sound too good. Just recently placed a big order from Rockauto.. Hope it works out well! What was your issues with them? If I find anything I will let you know. Would be great to have more parts available here in Europe!
