Whats going on people?

Lets see, I have a 1985 monte carlo SS that my mom bought brand spanking new back in the day. When I turned 18 she handed it over to me and I've had it ever since (10 years now). I am currently restoring it with my wife and we are still trying to figure out what motor to put into it, exhaust, etc. I'm hoping here I can get some good ideas/feedback to help me get this baby looking and driving good.

take care

Actually I don't have any pic's of it right now.. But I'll see what I can do about that.. its sitting on jack stands for a few days now. I've been putting all new rubber under the car when i get free time.

which free time is hard to get these days... :)

Welcome to the forum man.

Welcome to the MCF family.
As for the engine, there's no replacement for displacement. Go for a bored n stroked big block! Got a friend that built a 596 from a 454. On the other hand, the new LS small blocks crank out more power than ANY old small block EVER put out stock. LS2s are plentiful and powerful. Good start.

Hi...

MAMONTE 10-30-2009 02:23 PM

Welcome! The Chevy 5.7L (350) is always a GREAT engine choice. Super reliable, and tons of aftermarket! :)

jarheadbobandmax 10-30-2009 07:27 PM

welcome

AwesomeSS 10-30-2009 08:09 PM

Welcome to the site! I'd drop a 350 in it if you are trying to make it look stock.

jim fischer 10-31-2009 01:48 AM

welcome! id go with a 350.

TPI Monte SS 10-31-2009 08:34 AM

Welcome aboard from a fellow 4th-gen owner! I've been through a few engine combos with my Montes over the years (stock, and a built 305). My current one has a ZZ4-cammed 355 with Tuned Port fuel injection on top - it's the most fun yet! :) What's your goal with the car - a stock-appearing resto, or modified?

Chevy Commando 10-31-2009 10:26 AM

Welcome and 350 of course...this engines have been build so many times over the years that parts for them are cheap and you can make good hp with them.

aw9d 10-31-2009 02:24 PM

Hey everyone, thanks for all the welcomes.

I am looking to keep it stock looking on the outside, but still give it some power when I step on the gas. I"ve been looking into 350's for the most part. Like everyone has said, plenty of after market and its a good strong heart for my monte.

I'll get some pic's up soon. :)
