Default 71 Blue Monte working through engine

Just picked up the 71. The past owner had very little info on the engine even though he owned the car for close to 20 yrs. So far it's a 454 block with a 427 crank. It's in the shop so I'm waiting for block #'s etc.

if it has a 454 then it may very well be an ss...is there black trim beneath the trunk??..but the fact that the engine has been messed up could be some backyard mechanics addition prior to 20 years ago..build sheets can be found on top of gas tank or under the rear seats..this will tell you if it is a true ss through the options..if it is well worth to keep original

I know it's not an SS. The previous owner had the engine changed a number of years ago but had no spec documentation on things like cam, only a 454 block .30 over with a 427 crank. Not sure if it's a roller cam or not. I'll look for the build sheet but not holding my breath.

Thanks for the welcome zjerry and pob374. I'm sure I'll be looking for advice going forward as I figure out what the car needs.

Thanks, this is my third Monte. I had a 73 and a 72 but the last time I owned one was 35 years ago. Looking forward to cleaning it up.

Can anyone tell me how to get the Canadian dollar up so I can import parts without having to sell the car to afford them. LOL.
