I am curious about what else I would need to upgrade my 3.6L V6 to a 5.3L V8 for my 2006 Monte Carlo. The engine is from the same year.

 

I would assume engine mounts and I would upgrade the transmission as well. The stock HD trans that comes with the 2006-2007 Monte Carlo SS is weak even on a stock engine. I think I read that it is rated for 300 HP and the SS puts out 303 HP. If you do it I would do it right and get a built HD trans from Tripple edge performance. You will probably also need all the computer stuff and harnesses to go along with the new engine. Someone who is more knowledgeable will chime in and give you a better idea of what you would need.

Do you have the 3.5 or 3.9 v6? Not that it matters as far as the swap is concerned it's just that there was never a 3.6L v6 offered in 2006.

The swap itself will be a lot of work. If I were to do the swap, I would buy an Impala SS with the LS4 that was wrecked in the rear end and take the parts as needed.
